Why has L.A & NYC Progressed, but Chicago is still a ****-Hole?

breh, I'm LA born and raised.. the city has improved since the 80s and 90s.

and we know about NYC improving.....

But Chicago has gotten worse since that time

chicago has not gotten worst since the 90's. we just in a day and age where news travel at lightning speed due to chat rooms, twitter, face book etc.

being in the city, i know for a fact the gangbanging aint like it was in the 90's

in the 90's you had to had a certain color on, hat had to be turned straight, nikkas flashed signs to every car with dudes rolling by, just a few examples

this is not the case these days. most these beefs is ignorance in core but it be personal rifts between families and clicks on specific blocks. it can easily be certain type fo gds waring with another type of gds and so on. a lot of the times is some dudes lil sister or girlfriend getting into beefs at some house party or in school and it spills out and gets worst. sometimes its some dusty dudes robbing dudes and them guys find out who did and get back at them.

but those scenarios that happened in the 90's where dudes could be getting off the train and some gang signs will get thrown up, some signs will get thrown down and a whole brawl will break out. those things hardly ever happen. most of this shyt is just simple dumb shyt that gets bigger than it has to.

I've been thinking that shyt too. Maybe we're reaching, but ever since '08 when he became a nat'l sensation, Chicago's been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. CNN had a special on the 35 CPS students who were shot/killed a few years ago. When the city was trying to get the Olympics & trying to get Obama to help, they were on some, "Chicago is too violent" shyt (yet, the 2016 games are in Rio De Janeiro )

This was type of Chi I remembered from the 90s (google Robert Sandifer for those who don't recall/recognize this story/image), but like others said violent crime per capita and absolute numbers have been in decline from the last couple of decades. The U.S as a whole is just a violent place not much need to point out one city when its a systemic and cultural problem.

In 10' the officially recognized murders in the country was close to 15K @ close to 310 million total pop for the country contrast that to 25K @ a little over 252 million pop in 91'. You can see a true decline in numbers along with population growth. Remember always to control for population w.r.t crime figures as I see some posts only puttng up absolute numbers that might not tell the whole story. Although, like how they say on the wire stats today can be "juked" to make things appear better than they seem but in some instances areas in the country are more safe than before and others are clearly worse. Its a complex issue and I'd get more into but the game is coming on and I don't have my econometric crime data/research on hand to break coorelations down like that.

The crime in Chi isn't a city/local nor black problem but a national one that isn't fully addressed in this country.

It's called Mayor Guiliani and the NYPD. People don't understand that that a lot of the notorious hoods in NYC were once occupied by white people. Harlem had its renaissance but I don't understand why it couldn't sustain itself. Honestly, who the fukk wants to see Times Square into a shyt hole again? To be fair, crime started going down 18 months before Giuliani came around and crime went down EVERYWHERE at the same time it was going down in New York City.

Right. I think the violence in Chicago is there like any other large city, but it's just portrayed in a sensationalistic light. The only time my homies from other places talk about the Chi is when they read some little 4 year old girl got shot in Englewood or something.

Brooklyn for the most part was an untapped resource. Once they figured out that they can make the area around the East River attractive it was over. It's virtually impossible to do barring a Big Dig-like reconstruction of the borough, and by that I mean deading the Cross-Bronx because that's what really screwed property values up.

There are nice areas in the BX, but they were nice anyway. Much of the problem areas will always be problem areas because the land will always be viewed as a wasted investment.
