nas/pac/big/jay threads but this is
If I Ruled The World, Street Dreams, Nas Is Like, Hate Me Now, Oochie Wally, Got Yourself A Gun, One Mic, Made You Look, Thugz Mansion and I Can were all massive hits. Can only assume you weren't around when these were released.

Nas doesn't make "mainstream" music. They won't let him play. He's like E-40.
E40 is actually very influentual. hes an artist that alotta nikkas dont give the proper respect but he still influenced their slang and the subject matter they rap about. im not even a fan like that but you cant deny dudes impact
makin anthems about not saving hoes was way ahead of the game
e-40's problem
E-40 doesn't have a problem, neither does Nas.
They're cemented in this game, despite some who question if they "made it properly in mainstream". That was my point.
A Ginuwine feature wasn't necessarily a reach for mainstream success. That song was what it was. It didn't exactly scream crossover. It appealed to fans of both R&B and Hip Hop. "Hate Me Now" definitely wasn't going for crossover appeal. That song was more in the vain of "Victory" than it was "It's All About The Benjamin" and "Been Around The World".

Nas doesn't trend hop like many of these other "rappers". He's preserved his artistic integrity to do what he wants to do at this stage in his career, not what the industry wants him to do.
nas has flirted with mainstream success from time to time but it's primarily because he doesn't follow trends
he just does his own thing and wins![]()

Its just that he has never made an attempt to stay mainstream as much as Jay has.
Dude Nas always focused more on the less mainstream topics than Jay in his raps.yes he did.
he just stopped when it wasnt working for him anymore and he was almost down to his last leg.
also, he never had the mainstream success that jay had.
U playing if u don't think Nas wasn't deep on the mainsteam level from 96-2003
im tired of this mainstream = success attidute around here.Basically. An E-40 song chosen at random is gonna be different from a rapper
trying to make a "mainstream hit". Same with Nas.
E-40 doesn't have a problem, neither does Nas.

dude is 20 something years in the game and is still able to make hits i dont really think he has a problem just because somebody like me dont check for his albums.alot of embellishing on one side & downlaying on the other.
i usually stay away from thenas/pac/big/jay threads but this is
abuse the term "massive hits" brehs.
nas made plenty of mainstream music. even in recent years.
e-40's problem is that hes an acquired taste who the average person views as either okay or flat-out wack.
Never heard that before.if i ruled the world was unexpected as it was originally a bonus track for the CD only version of IWW which of course changed when it popped off lol
bottom line is, e-40 is more of a regional legend.
no amount of radio play(or whatever you said) is gonna change that. he was down with lil jon and was getting crazy radio spins EVERYWHERE and still didnt go anywhere with it.
i dont even know why you brought him up. theres no comparison to nas. hes moreso in the ugk category.
Never heard that before.
The funny thing is that Nas sold more copies with "I am" and "Nastradamus" than Diddy and Ginuwine albums in 99/98. Getting diddy on "hate me now" was more of a statement than a sell out move because Puff was one of the most hated people in hiphop.his highest charting hit was "i can"
by FAR
and it was #12
nas stans making up excuses "he didn't want it"
oh so songs with Ginuwine and diddy don't exist![]()
