Wiz in general was a beast before his first album. So many different styles and flows. That run from
POTC2 to Cabin Fever was legendary
Only Currensy tapes that could really even match up to that were the Pilot Talk series, Smokee Robinson, n This Aint No Mixtape.
That's one of my favorite runs for a rapper ever. Also the time it happened I was right in the middle of college and smoked a lot.
Now even though I don't smoke nearly as much I listen to Spitta way more than I did. Can't really listen to Wiz anymore, the music just seems really hollow even though the content might've stayed the same.
Wiz has always been the more marketable artist. I always felt like he was gonna blow up. You can go one of two ways when you get mainstream, the Wiz route or the Kendrick route. You get a whole bunch of new fans and you change your music to fit it, or you get a bunch of new fans, your sh1t stays relatively the same and you're remain recognized for that style.
Curren$y doesn't do it to that scale because his core fans already like who he is and what he's doing. An understated artist like Curren$y gives it a different type of appeal than a huge, intangible rap star. I think that resonates with him and his fans.
The live show aspect is another difference. I saw Spitta at the House of Blues a little over a year ago and the smaller venue can be better for a rapper like him. Everybody gets close to the stage and raps all the words. Same thing with TDE and A$AP before they got big. The smaller venue shows are a better atmosphere when they're still underground.
