Why is ESPN still dikkriding Jordan after all these years?

actin like nobody was checkin for 2pac until after he died or like he was just some average run of the mill rapper who got big after he got shot, name a rapper bigger than pac in 1996. not nas, not jayz, not big, not snoop, not dre, nobody was bigger than pac

2pacalypse now - gold
strictly for my nikkaz- platinum
me against the world= 2x platinum
all eyez on me - 10x platinum

etc. and these were all released before he died. and music is subjective, one man's trash is another man's lil wayne.

I'm sorry, but unlike Rakim, I don't recall anyone saying " :ohhh:this dude may be the best MC ever" until he passed.

I didn't say this I'm old enough to remember when 2pacalypse debuted and NOBODY was checkin for pac like that except hip hop heads.

He blew up when he started acting like an idiot. He wasn't the best mc, lyricist or story teller he made a bunch of emotional music that unstable people loved

After he died he's become a messiah.Let revisionists tell it pac ran hip hop when he didn't.

What's the difference between people dikkriding pac to death and espn dikkriding jordan? Jordan earned his adulation without taking 4 shots to the chest ,nobody was dikkriding pac until he died he was a well known rapper then and so was wu tang,Big,Ice Cube,Nas etc

Yeah, the 2Pac stuff was after he passed. He was never spoken about at that level until death. And this comes from a 2Pac fan.

If we're picking out individuals, Dr.J/ABA style of play doesn't get the recognition he deserves for carrying the torch for the NBA.

All credit goes to Magic, bird, and then Jordan
Exactly

Or that the 1980s was called, the 2nd Golden Era after the 1960s was the first.

Of course it was. MJ was at an all time tilt. No one can take that away from him. So why don't you focus on the mass exodus after he left and see that as a flaw?

Pouring all of your resources into one person like the league did in MJ was pure garbage. It didn't allow people to appreciate the greatness of players, so they weren't interested.

MJ put himself in a nice position with Nike and his jerseys. ONLY Nike could sell Jordan jerseys, so with the NBA unable to make money on merchandising MJ, they decided to compete with Nike by dikkriding MJ to death. Fans loved it....and that love left with him. And we're still living in those throes. :manny:

Thank GOD for the NFL not being on the stupid shyt.

Yeah stupid sh1t like fair minority hiring practices lol... What about the NFL and the blatant racism surrounding its most popular and important position (QB)? Or the fact that a decent chunk of their ex players are taking them to court..At the end of the day it kinda makes Nike jerseys seem irrelavant in the big scheme of things...You really mad at Mike for getting money and forcing the leagues hand? You think that was stupid?

I can write a book on the stupid and downright criminal sh1t the NFL is on...

And about the exodus of casual fans...

You think its Jordan's fault that after he left the game it fell into the hands of a bunch of cornroll rockin, tatted up, weed smoking, wannabee rap n1ggas that ran into the crowd and beat up fans?

It's Jordan's fault that the most talented heir apparent was going through an identity crisis, didn't know how to be himself and was pretty much a Michael "mini-me" all the way down to his body language and voice inflections?

It's Jordan's fault that the grand exodus of 1 and dones and high school players turned the league into a glorified farm league for almost a decade..And their was no channel for decent player devolopement on or off the court?

Like I said it was a perfect storm of fukkery that just happened to coincide with his retirement..

It wasn't that the NBA stopped promoting individual players... They just weren't as talented, charismatic or likeable in the years after Mike retired...

And that pendulum is starting to swing back around.. Just turn on the TV...

Dog...you seem awfully sensitive on things as if I said "everything" about the NBA is bad.

:russ:

My point is....it was
nike....

Nike.....

NIKE!!!

That was promoting players brilliantly through them marketing Jordan. They cornered the market. The NBA found themselves COMPETING AGAINST Nike who were getting bank on MJ's shoes AND his "NBA JERSEY."

So they got into a marketing war THROUGH oversaturating MJ for advertising dollars because he was a money magnet while giving token interest to everyone else.

I don't see what there's to argue about. It was a shytty business model.

I'm just tired of the past not allowing people to embrace these young players today.

From Kobe to Lebron.

It's retarded.

And how many times do I have to post "It's not Jordan's fault" that niqqas still think I'm blaming him for cornering the market?

:wtf:

I'll never forget David Robinson's "send off" during the Finals against the Knicks.

They gave one of the greatest centers ever a halftime segment on a couch.

It obviously wasn't a shytty business model because they made tons of money during that time. The words you're looking for is short sighted.

Dog....it was a horrible business model because that was short money.

They lost fans after MJ left. Sports is about sustaining and getting that long money.

Short money is rivalries that retire with the players involved.

Short money is when fans leave after you do a poor job of diversifying interest into other products.

The NBA is just now getting back on its feet.

It was a shytty model compared to the NFL and MLB.

Naw I'm a basketball junkie period...I actually pay to go to Wizards games lol...I would watch it anytime anywhere because I love it...

I'm just explaining why the casual fan that now watches the NFL religiously left the game....

The business model isn't broken...You can't come up with a bottomline plan to combact racism...

Give the NBA 10 Larry Birds and all of a sudden everyone looks a lot smarter
The NFL's business model is the most important and popular position is dominated by white guys.. It's not rocket science...

You think its white guys that make Jets and Fish fans want to see them play each other in the "Mediocre bowl" every year?

Here's the difference between NFL/MLB fans and NBA fans. My sons will wear Jets gear while NBA fans will put their kids in NBA in an throwback or the "popular player of the moment" jersey.

Dog you are a former football player yourself. Of course you're gonna have a connection to the game that you pass on..

I'm talking about the casual fans that say they won't watch the NBA because of lack of fundamentals and skill level, but will watch Wisconsin put up 38 points in a Big 10 game because 4 of the starters look like them..

The only business model that can compete with that is homegrown white talent..

If 30 of the starting NFL QBs looked like Vick lets see how excited the average casual fan would be to pass that tradition down to their kids..

Dog...I love basketball just as much as you do.

The point is, the NBA expects you to keep pace with changing faces while MLB/NFL expects you to keep pace with stable "teams."

Where's the longer and more consistent money? You know I'm right.....

Cause he the GOAT....

Dude is 50 years old and teens and cats in they 20s out here going crazy over the shoes he wore back in the 90's.

Also what else are they supposed to talk about right now? Its a slow sports week and I'm am very tired of hearing about the Lakers and Dwight Howard.

And at the end of the day, Jordan helped ESPN rise to greatness.

His highlights are part of what made Sportcenter so popular in the 90s, why do you think they have a week's worth material on him?

It's only right they pay homage

His greatness coincided with ESPN getting into more homes and the NBA pimping MJ's popularity for everything he was worth since they weren't making money on his jerseys. So while he was one of the greatest athletes ever, timing, a league in flux by free agency and shytty teams, and what I stated earlier has a lot to do with his popularity.

Thank god other sports aren't dikkriding one athlete to the ground like that and got over past greats, focusing on their current ones.

NBA fans are the only fans since post -Jordan who embrace the greatness of players AFTER they've retired, not while they're playing.

It's sort of pathetic.

shytty teams were always a part of NBA history bruh, they weren't introduced upon Magic's retirement.

Let's be real, Lakers and Celtics combine for half the NBA champions in NBA history.
