Why is hockey the only sport with a universally accepted GOAT?

The thing is there are small sects that consider magic/Kareem/even kobe (:mjlol:) the GOAT. And LBJ has a growing GOAT presence whether you guys acknowledge is up to you. With Gretzky it feels not even debateable. Though I guess you could argue Mario is more talented.
Yeah with bball its kinda hard to acknowledge one true goat, basketball has that barbershop culture with it where cats can argue for days

All valid points, but longevity matters too. It’s why Duncan makes a valid argument when compared to Shaq. It’s why Dwyane Wade isn’t looked at higher on the list. It’s part of why jerry rice is unanimously looked at as the best receiver ever. While Moss was done at 34 and TO was producing up until he turned 37, rice was an all pro at 40.
I value peak play and skill in sports debates. :manny:

Did Sidney Crosby love up to the hype? Is he #2 all time?

Is Ovechkin top 10?

Both are pretty much the greatest of their generation but I'm not sure either lived up to the hype. Ovi has shrunk in the playoffs a lot and Crosby has dealt with injuries but Crosby does have 3 Cups, the only thing I'd say is at times Malkin, Crosby's teammate outplays him in crucial games so that's sort of a weird knock on Crosby even though they wouldn't have 3 cups without him.

Current players are better than those old players. It's the nature of the sport. There were a lot of shytty skaters, goalies, and coaching back then. The league is barely comparable. It's still amazing that he was that much better than anyone else. It's the reason why people mention Bobby Orr. He was similar in the way he dominated everyone. People compare players vs. their era, which is different than the NBA where the league hasn't changed that much in comparison.

It's impossible for something like that to happen these days. Crosby and McDavid are transcendent, dominant players every time they're on the ice. Ovechkin is dominating in goal scoring this era, and is a physical beast who never gets hurt. But there's a lot of great players around the league.

The first (0:32) and third (2:34) goals . :mindblown::wow: and they are NOT luck

Crosby has been clutch in the olympics...Malkin has not...

The thing many people dont realize is gretzky best season that will never ever ever be touched ever again

92 goals
120 assists

He was only 20 Years old

:dahell:

gretzky reached 1,000 points at age 22 :mjlol:

the average great player of today it might take them 13-14 years to reach that, gretzky did in 5 years

gretzky reached 500 goals at age 24

500 goals is like 500 home runs

imagine a baseball player reaching 500 home runs at age 24
Naw, the most goals in a season was 92, in an 82 game season. That would be like someone hitting over 200 home runs in a baseball season.

Kobe snitched on Shaq
Jordan and Ali
Ali isn't close to Sugar Ray Robinson p4p

Sugar Ray fought during the Golden Age of boxing. Everyone and they momma was a boxer. It's like basketball now.

Sugar Ray at one point was something like 120-0. Meaning there was a good possibility he beat the shyt out one of your relatives.

He was just THAT good breh :manny:

Baseball could be headed towards something like that right now though. There is pretty much no debate Mike Trout is the best in the game, and he's on pace for the best WAR in history this season. If he keeps this up for like 10-12 more years, and gets some rings and never tests positive for PEDs he might become baseballs undisputed GOAT
Mike Trout will never be better than the GOAT, Barry Lamar Bonds. I don't give a shyt about the steroids and PED argument so don't even waste your time. Trout is never gonna put up the numbers Bonds put up. Not a knock on Trout. He's by far the best in the game now but Bonds at his apex was even better.
