the quality hasnt gone down, breh

we're overstimulated with the internet. in the 90s everything that came out got you hype because you werent flooded with material and didnt have unlimited options of music to listen to. the level of anticipation and buildup is gone, because theres something new out every day

well I'm not surprised that there's many threads talking about the decline of quality music

when it comes to music message boards, what topic would rouse people's passion up more then the state of the music itself?

as far as looking for quality music....

are you saying that quality music is still being made, but they aren't mainstream anymore, and instead they have to be searched for?

so for example, are you saying that high quality albums like Thriller(this example is probably unfair),

The Chronic, IllMatic, OB4CL, The Diary and etc are still being made but they just have to be looked for?

you sound like you will hate on anything if its post-2000. so why bother.

TV has supposedly gone down from the early 90's

Yet Breaking Bad,The Wire, Game Of Thrones,Boardwalk Empire,True Detective,The Walking Dead,House Of Cards,Sons Of Anarchy, The Shield, Mad Men etc. are either still on the air or have been on the air within the last 10 years

Well this year - Freddie Gibbs dropped a potential classic. Blu dropped a potential. Shabazz Palaces doing amazing things in the studio. the whole dirty science crew is a problem. Quelle Chris keeps dropping good music - even his brother dropped a nice tape. Evidence and alchemist both been dropping potentials this year and the past few years. its just so much good music these days im all like :mindblown: at anyone tryna shyt on it.

there's still good stuff out there, but times change in general.....however as far as quality overall, it's controlled by $$$$.

A Britney Spears is marketable. She can't really sing, but she was cute, young and would grab the teenage fanbase. $$$$$ there's 100 black girls from the hood who could sing her under the table but they may not be marketable. It all comes down to $$$$

Occasionally, we get an artist who makes great music and is still marketable

but by virtue of your own answer

if hype and newness was a factor in the way they viewed music in the past

why is it that 20 years later, after the initial hype and newness has died down, that music still stands the test of time

and is still being appreciated by people in the year 2014

and is also regarded by many people in the year 2014, that, that music is of a higher quality then the current music scene?

I don't think all music quality has gone down

Only hip hop & pop

Even them there's still some good stuff. Gotta dig for it and I feel it's few and far between but it exists

I don't known when it comes to hip hop the more I think about it the more I wanna blame the producers. It use to be a lot more dedicated in house producers so every artist had they own sound. Now it's like two or three producers who the go to guy at they time and they chasing the money can't blame em. At the same time they diluting they brand and sound cuz it's everywhere at once.

There is a large pool of talent not being heard.

Chuck did said it well when he compared how talent is scouted in professional sports compared to in music in his combat jack show interview. Check it out if you haven't, it's very insightful.

I'm with you on the movies and tv shows too. I watched the last dragon the other day and it just reminded me just how much of a difference there really is.

Adding on to similar topics on the front page...

Why is it that the quality of Music, and Entertainment in general has gone down?

Music - Not just rap, but music in general is not as good as it used to be. Compare music from the 80's and 90's to now.

Movies - Also not as good as it used to be. Compare movies from the 80's and 90's to now.

N.B.A and the NFL - I dont watch sports too much but I have a feeling that sports fans would agree

that sports in the 80's and 90's were at a higher quality then it is now.

T.V Shows - Also not as good as it used to be. Where is the next Martin? Where is the next Seinfeld? etc

(Edit : to be fair...I'm not too familiar with T.V shows now a days, so this statement might be wrong)

Is there a common reason to all of this? Or are there individual reasons for each of these entities?
These threads are tiring, things aren't worse they're just different you are getting older and are nostalgic about past decades.

I don't see how movies or television are any worse, this is considered by many critics to be a golden era for television. Have you not seen the craze over Breaking Bad and The Wire over the last decade?

The NBA is the NBA, the NFL is the NFL the top players are just different, and the rules are slightly altered still both enjoyable sports if you made a list of top players in both leagues decade to decade really is there a significant difference?

As for rap I found guys that I like and I recognize that changing times has led to changing subject matters and shyt. Find the artists that you like the diversity in the game is crazy. :manny:

Literally every decade you have this shyt happening. Wilt was downplaying Shaq in the 90s because of era bias, rap purists were criticizing the changing content in rap during the 90s, etc.

Nobody loves old shyt more than me, and even I go :snoop: when I see threads like this.

And it's even more funny when you see some of the shyt nikkas will romanticize from the past, and yet have these mega-high standards for anything new. So "Whoomp There It Is" and "Tootsie Roll" and shyt like that can get a pass, but DJ Mustard is the wackest thing to ever happen to music... just an example I'm using but you know. Truth is, no matter how great the good ol' days were, NOTHING is ever as great as we think it was. It's just the memories we have from when we were younger, and because we loved all that shyt then, we think nothing will ever be better than it now. All these "how come we don't get great shows like The Parent Hood", "Big Willie Style >>>> any album released this year", etc. type posts are just the effect of nostalgia completely makin' nikkas lose their minds.
