I didn't say they were but you'd be delusional if you didn't think the global perception of fair skinned blacks is that of a less harmful people.

Still, K. Dot outsold everyone and he dark skinned.

He has a fanbase that has bought into him. They see him as representing "real." Anyone who was on a college campus during his rise knows this. The difference between him and Sean is that people like Sean but he never made the personal connection where people want to see him win. People feel they know who Cole is and what he represents. Selling albums these days is more about the fans buying into the actual person behind the music than just the music itself. Just the music will get you a certain amount of sales, but selling the person is what gets you the big numbers. He is that relatable cat for teenagers and people still in college, they see some of themselves in him. He's damn near Nas to my younger cousins.

A guy like Sean was never marketed properly. We never saw him marketed as the under dog from Detroit or anything that made you want to root for him. He was swagged out from day 1 and that will get you spins, but it won't get you sales these days. Cole has successfully become he always wanted to be, the new everyman rapper, the new old Kanye West.

According to :mjpls: @NigerianDonDada all that matters is hit radio singles. Everything else is null and void.

Born Sinner was a solid sophmore and def made up for his weak debut. But I'm just wondering when is Cole going to drop a classic retail album. When listening to tracks from the Truly Yours series its clear he has the capability to do so. Its just who ever is overseeing his music selection and album cuts is doing a bad job.

I mean Kenny Lofton didn't make the album. :mindblown:

Cole gotta get away from roc nation. Jay is about those hits, not the music. I dont think cole is made to feel comfortable on his imprint, he needs to be on interscope or some shyt. Game is allowed to drop underperforming albums again and again, I'm pretty sure cole could get some sort of freedom there to make the music he's capable of without the sales pressure

Nah man. J cole clearly got the support of young average black nikkaz like no other. Before he released his shyt, all I saw on fb and twitter from dudes back home was Cole World this and that. Go on WSHH and the comments talking bout how he "bringing back the real, relatable stuff."

ironically it's the same fanbase Kanye used to eat from and vacated ever since he started going left-field

Breh, in real life I don't know anybody that dislikes J.Cole. This nikka has a great fan base :ld:

this is true

As far as the Miguel :hula: Cole debate, neither of them put the other one on. Miguel was just a slow starter and it took a while for ppl to finally start warming up to his music, J. Cole had nothing to do with eventhough he was featured on his lead single

Threads like this need to stop. People are into Kendrick and Cole because they sick of the fake shyt. From NWA - MMG we had to deal with fake ass nikkas acting a part. Its just refreshing to see dudes just be themselves.
:manny: That's pretty much it.

J.Cole helped Miguel get on, really brehs?

You nikkas most have SELECTIVE-short term memories. Who dat flopped and forced the label to push his album back a full year. ALL I NEED IS YOU featuring MIGUEL helped spread Cole's mainstream appeal and created momentum for his debut album.
the only reason anyone listened to miguels first single was cuz j cole was on it. dude was the cat that dropped lights please/the warm up and signed to hovs label

then were all like :leon: he can actually blow

who cares if miguels album dropped first cole was more known. . you act like retail albums is the only avenue for music.
