kanye took the jayz route and dumbed down his music for a bigger audience.

what blows my mind tho, is he was the front-line of the more "conscious" rap so to speak, and was going platinum. ppl were craving that type of music at the time, so he didnt really have no need to dumb his music down to get an audience.

Nikka are u stupid..Are u so subconsciously against major mainstream success that you accuse anyone attaining such to "dumbing down".

Wtf is u saying nikka? :why:

He did not dumb down...Kanye not dumbing down sht, did u hear his Power(remix)?

Oh I know who u are..You're one of those dumasses that has a sound in mind that indicates dumbing down.
Ur the idiot that has rose tinted vision when it comes to the first projects of a major mainstream artist.

nikka any one who's looking at things objectively knows nothing has really changed about Kanye's lyrics
Yea, his style continues to change and he continues to reinvent himself each album release..but thats what a good artist is supposed to do :snoop:

Kanye didnt dumb down sht. It just seems that way cuz the Kanye you remember loving got a greater platform and sooner or later u got annoyed with his character when back then u loved it.

He didnt change. You did. Now fukk out my face with ur dumass, stuck looking in the past with rose tinted vision ass sht nikka:ufdup:

:notimpressed: ok you do realize that is a not his song right

nothing from Graduation, 808's, MBTDF or WTT was dumbed down its different but not dumbed down maybe even more complex. I guess yall wanted college dropout 5 times. And if he was giving yall the same type of music from college dropout yall would be saying he aint showing no growth or versatility. Can win with yall hip hop fans

What Kanye went from making pop club tracks with Timbo to socially conscious music, Foh. How are you gonna take one of his most soulful joints and compare it to a feature on a party track?

MBDTF was his last album, teach me about how the fukk that's dumbed down.
Enlight us nikka, enlighten :blessed:.

Mbdtf is probably his least commercial album and 808s probably even less commercial, obscure lyrics, abstract production, no flipping of popular soul/rnb beats and the list goes on. As far as appealing to a larger audience, Kanye is one of the few rappers that would compromise his own music for the sake of mass appeal. We're talking about a dude who lost money on doing shows. We're talking about a person who put out an album without a video, interview, nothing and first single with nothing but bars and a chopped up sample (Jay-z probably strongly disagreed with that whole thing).

I think Kanye does shyt with 2 Chainz, Chief Keef, Justin Bieber x Raekwon and whoever cause he wants to exercise his power in the game to do shyt he's never done and have fun.
As long as it's not his own shows or albums, he might just wild out sometimes cause he can.

Stronger was the first rap record of the 00's to have that strong EDM vibe, down to the drums that really took off. The drums at the start are pure euro-dance music-ish. The synths throughout are also heavily EDM influenced.

Now Timbo did that first with the Justin album. But Justin's white and has a core of white fans. For it take off in hip-hop it needed a black artist with black fans to go that route. Kanye did it.

Believe it or not, Def Jam didn't think Stronger would work because they thought black people wouldn't like it. Think about it, the core of all Kanye's previous hits was from black artists making "black" music. Gold digger/Ray Charles, Slow Jamz/Vandross, All Falls Down/Lauryn Hill, even Jesus Walks had a black choir on it. Stronger at the core is white Frenchman making dance/pop music. Even Good Life at its core was a black man (apparently) trying to be white. Graduation changed hip-hop and was THE sell-out album of the 00's.

Kanye's smart though. Can't Tell Me Nothing got more play in the hood than any Kanye song previously. So there was balance. But Graduation was the sell out album and everybody seemed to like it.

But yeah, kinda like the rock star clothing that got popular in the hood post 2005. Problem is that "black" music stagnated and never evolved post 2003. Either get Euro-influenced, or just die off. Kind of like when Timbo and Justin changed R & B into a techno genre, Kanye wanted to push himself cause he didn't want to limit himself in one formula.
