lol@hating on Lil Jon & No Limit. yeah there should've been other/older stuff to get "honored" (lets say Fugees, Nas or Bone), but they're still legends that influenced the entire industry and made some good stuff (go listen to Ghetto D, Tru 2 Da Game or Life Or Death you knuckleheads)

There was a lot of backlash with them honoring The South. It had little, if anything to do with the quality of music, but more so several artists from The South not wanting to participate. For example OutKast and Geto Boys were not involved. Most of the artists honored weren't honored as artists, but for their production (Jermaine Dupri, Timbaland, Organized Noize).

As for the Honors itself, there was only so much that they could do. Again, it comes down to participation. Then there's artists that were still very much active and relevant that really didn't need the show.

Maybe ratings? I dont know I guess after you honor the established ones, the mainstream sorta has to scratch its head at who you honor next.

They didnt have to make a whole year just honoring one region though, just spread the legends out over the years.

We never got to see Nas, Jay-Z, EPMD, Gangstarr honored and you could have honored Scarface/Geto Boys, Outkast, No Limit/Cash Money with other acts from other regions different years.

i like the idea of honoring legends but some of the performances were pure fukkery. like nelly doing a tribute to LL or kanye coming out doing a B.I.G. song with the cane and everything. i think at the last one rick ross closed the show with 'hustlin' :snoop:

theres only so many artists that you can honor before youre reaching like hell to find artists that are 'worthy'

plus once they did that tribute to the south fukkery i think the show ran its course

:what:

theres a ton of stones left un-turned. and alot of them are guys that shouldve been in long before alot of the people that got inducted.

true lil jon didnt deserve shyt...but Geto Boys, Scarface, and Master P all deserved honors....

exactly.

some of these dudes sound like some herb-nerds. in here dissin no limit, uncle luke & jermaine dupri as if they arent hall-of-famers.

they screwed up by showcasing all those crunk rappers and one-hit wonders. they had bone crusher in there performing his song? the ying yang twins?:whoo:

also, the def jam tribute the year beforehand was shabby. lets not forget that.

as for lil jon, i mean, i guess he can sneak in YEARS from now, but putting him in there in 2010 and prominently featuring him? SMH.

- did 'em in chronological order. For example, they should've done Sugarhill Gang, Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Flash/Furious Five the first show.

meh, the ratings for that wouldve been horrific. rap fans are notorious for not caring about their history. you gotta throw the '90s rappers in the mix right away to get people to watch.

i wouldve preferred that they did what youre saying tho. starting with the kool hercs, dj hollywoods & coke la rocks but i understand why they mixed everybody up.

edit: its crazy how you mentioned kurtis blow. they didnt honor him at all.

I see why you would say that, but I don't agree 100%.

There's a grip of older folks who don't fucc with rap anymore (or rap in general) and would watch that just for nostalgia.

And it would work in reverse also; imagine how much props a young rapper (let's say a dude like Kendrick Lamar) would get if he got on stage in front of the pioneers and rocked "The Message" with the same inflection that Melle did.

Or if Wiz put some bass in his voice and did "Party Time" like Kurtis, I guarantee the li'l niccas would rock to that.

the thing is, most :flabbynsick: heads that dont follow rap anymore are mostly people that stopped following rap after the mid-80s and mostly grew up on soul & funk to begin with. the 1st 2 shows were basically catered towards that crowd with pac & big being the only exceptions. but at the end of the day, they either didnt know about those shows or just didnt care. so i really cant see a successful show being all the way chronological, starting with the '70s park jam artists.

industry plants cant roc da mic like kurtis & melle mel. it would be horrific seeing wiz & kendrick up there trying to cover those songs. plus they had rappers that were way better & way more popular with the kids doing covers for old school artists. plus i highly doubt that kendrick & wiz came up on kurtis blow & the furious five.

i think that the 2nd, 3rd & 4th shows were good actually.

but the last 2 shows(def jam & the south) were horrible. and the 1st show was prolly the worst of them all. you can tell there was very little input from actual rap fans with the way that show was produced. they need to go back and re-honor all those legends from the 1st show because that show was a disgrace.

Guess no other regions or movements to cover.

I always thought they would show love to underground groups like Black Moon or Pharcyde. :yeshrug:
