I used to have the same state of mind.
However I recently signed up to Spotify purely because of the PS4 app release. It's a bit more convenient than having my laptop besides me playing tracks. There's tonnes of playlists and other music I might want to listen to on the off chance.
A big plus for me though is that I can listen to stuff that I don't want to buy because I've not heard of the artists before.
For instance, Spotify has let me listen to the Courtney Barnett (never heard of her before last week) album and I'm now going to buy it so I can put it on my iPod. If I do that say 4/5 times a month with separate albums, it's worth the £9.99 per month imo
