KD doesn't seem to understand that either. He said 20 years from now all people will remember is how many rings he won. Wrong! Wilt scored 100 in a game but we don't consider him the GOAT because of circumstances. Bill Russell won 11 rings but we don't consider him the GOAT because of circumstances. Everyone will remember how Durant got his ring(s), and yes I assume he'll win one this year or next. But history is not without context.

LeBron took a lot of flack for going to Miami. Can you imagine if he went to Boston? :krs: :dead:

:excuseme:????

Both Wilt and Russell have solid GOAT claims:excuseme:

I disliked Brons move to Miami but atleast Miami was nothing before he got there. Bron made Miami into a contender.

KD went to the team that beat him. He was up 3-1 on them. Thats the most beta move I've ever seen in sports. All of his rings in GS will have asterisks.

KD getting a title gets the "never won a title" off his back but I don't think it helps his overall legacy because of how he did it, fair or unfair that's how he will be judged. Him leaving a team that was up 3-1 in the WCF to join the 73 win team that beat him will always have an asterisk :yeshrug:

7 years later and no one gets on Lebron for winning 2 rings with Wade and Bosh

10 years later, and no one besmirches KG, Allen, or Pierce for how they came together to win their ring.

No one will care. Its just the truth

Championships are only understood through context. The context of how and why KD wins a title (assuming they win one) defines his legacy as much as winning one. Joining a legendary team that has already won a title isn't as meaningful as winning one as "the man" in a city like OKC

-KG & Ray got traded to BOS at the end of their primes

-Bron joined a team that didn't even make the playoffs the year before

-KD took the "if you can't beat em join em" mentality to a new level...him winning is going to count, but it's also going to be counted against him if they win it

if Golden State wins the next 3 titles in dominant fashion, no one will care.

You all are in the moment like a mug.

I disagree. If Golden State wins 3 tough hard fought titles and KD plays a big role then no one will care. But if they are just spotting up and draining threes and blowing teams out that way people will consider it fluke.

No one who follows sports and sports history forgets the context of how a championship was won. No one is ever gonna forget that LeBron "teamed up" to go to Miami. Similarly no one is gonna forget that Bron left to go back to CLE and win a title. So yes nobody will forget that KD left a title contender in OKC to go to GS. It's a part of his legacy, that's not an in the moment hot take breh

how can people see dominant wins as a fluke?
Not "a" fluke just fluke. As in not official. As in cheat code shyt... like picking Oddjob in GoldenEye. They have arguably the 3 greatest shooters of all time on that roster...
