No one who follows sports and sports history forgets the context of how a championship was won. No one is ever gonna forget that LeBron "teamed up" to go to Miami. Similarly no one is gonna forget that Bron left to go back to CLE and win a title. So yes nobody will forget that KD left a title contender in OKC to go to GS. It's a part of his legacy, that's not an in the moment hot take breh
there were 8 teams in the NBA when Bill Russell won his rings, yet no one cares.

Most sports fans think the 90s were the best era ever and forget the Bulls won 3 titles after the league expanded 6 times in 8 seasons.

No one cares.

A lot of your responses to this thread is actually proving the video's point.
Not "a" fluke just fluke. As in cheat code shyt... like picking Oddjob in GoldenEye. They have arguably the 3 greatest shooters of all time on that roster...
They drafted two of those players.

Also, every team in the NBA had the chance to sign Durnat last year.

Lastly, the Warriors didnt win the title last year.

Nobody will care 10 years from now

Okl will be bottom feeder status when Russ leaves

That's just not true breh. We have sports debates on this site from shyt that happened in the late 90s and early 2000s from the NBA all the time. I think it's naive and just wrong to assume people will forget or not care that KD won a title like this. And It's not like he's at the end of his career either...he's in the prime of his career so he still has a lot of years left and we're gonna remember this moment...y'all don't realize that this Finals is a defining moment in KD's career

you idiots need to stop comparing the nba today in the modern era to the 60s; hell we shouldn't even be comparing today's game to the 80s we are in two different eras damn near 60 years apart. why are we discussing pre merger game? of course people will care the game is more accessible and is talked about much more than the 60s. many of Russell's games weren't even seen so of course they aren't talked about.

You need to understand context and stop being hurt that Durant is no longer there. (and you are, everyone can see it)

:russ: The rage from my little brothers when I'd play as him against them. They were taken out of their game mentally from the very start :mjlol:

We're talking about how KD is viewed tho. He wasn't drafted. We've seen the Warriors be great for 2 seasons already. And we know what KD's potential is.

He's not gonna get full credit for winning if he's just a rich man's Harrison Barnes. He's got to clearly earn it...

The truth is that maybe you don't care, but in all honesty you don't speak for anyone but yourself. This site by itself stands as a testament that people care deeply about sports and the context surrounding how championships are won...and I don't see how the Bulls winning 6 titles has anything to do with people not caring and the league expanding

All I am saying is if they go on a championship run, no one will care. Thats how this always works.

People were saying Lebron winning rings in Miami wouldnt count because he paired up with two other stars. Years later after the rings, and no one talks about that a a slight anymore.

This site hated Lebron joining the Heat until he won his rings.

What I am saying is your right now feelings probably will not be the same in 5-10 years. That is just the reality.

And I brought up Expansion and the Bulls because people think that Bulls team was the greatest of all time while ignoring the context around their titles.

Joining a 73 win team and winning a ring is not going to wipe the stain of being up 3 - 1 in the WCF and losing off his resume...

In fact...it makes him worse...cause the only thing worse than being up 3 - 1 on a team...is to go join that team the very next year...

The only way he could possibly be any more lame is if he was talking to the warriors while he was playing them in the WCF....and if you believe reports...he was...

Becuz we saw how Miami struggled and we saw Bron dominate when the team needed him to on many occasions. I'm a Lebron fan but I wouldn't respect it if he wasn't playing to his potential in Miami. If Wade was the leader of that team Bron's legacy would have taken a serious hit.

The point people are making is that context matters. Can't just say "a win is a win"

Championships are only understood through context. The context of how and why KD wins a title (assuming they win one) defines his legacy as much as winning one. Joining a legendary team that has already won a title isn't as meaningful as winning one as "the man" in a city like OKC

-KG & Ray got traded to BOS at the end of their primes

-Bron joined a team that didn't even make the playoffs the year before

-KD took the "if you can't beat em join em" mentality to a new level...him winning is going to count, but it's also going to be counted against him if they win it

I think cats said it best in other threads....Bron started it, but KD one upped Bron's move big time and in a more disgusting manner to many. The core of both of their moves isn't drastically different, it's just KD's was more bytchmade considering how close he and OKC came to beating the Warriors.
