Will Philly ever come back? Will a Philly cat ever make it a "Jay-Z, Nas, Big" level?

new york isnt interested in seeing any other east coast artists in that light. theyll be quicker to give the nod to somebody outside the region, rather than an east coast artist outside of new york.

case in point:
- meek millz is the king of the east coast right now. you think new york wants to acknowledge that? nah. "just stick him with the king of philly title. now lets hurry up and put this wack @$$ french montana chit at the forefront".

- if beanie siegal was from brooklyn, he'd have a mural by now.

- naughty by nature was the biggest group in hip-hop in the early '90s. but half the time, its like they never existed because they barely even mention them like that.

LA Kendrick. Chicago got Yeezy. The South got Weezy, Tip, Outkast, Face, Jeezy, Ross.

Goddamn, we dont got not one superstar out of all these rappers here :deadmanny:

:stop::stop::stop:

fresh prince was bigger than all these dudes.

lol @ kendrick. hes not even bigger than meek millz.

If you notice all the NY legends were signed to NY artist or NY record labels. Southern Legends were signed to southern labels or Southern branches of record labels.

If we ever get a Philly Legend we need to get a Philly label that will take care of the artist.

All Philly artist that signed to other labels had they style taken from them. Look at Young Chris and Jay-Z...Look at Gillie and Lil Wayne. If a Philly nikka sign to a Philly nikka (or Philly label) then the win stays in Philly.

basically.

mike knox broke it down perfectly when he was on the breakfast club.

the power lies where the record labels are located. this chit aint about x's and o's.

We have the best spitters but to make noise on a mainstream level, we need that label. We need that backing to get us out there. Youtube clips and mixtapes can only take you so far, and even if everyone goes indie, it still won't equal the level of success that other regions have had. NY only supports/signs/pushes NY, West Coast still say "F' the East", Southern artists have their support with their region, and NY says "F' them if they ain't from NY".

Will Smith is probably the only person that could give do a label, and be able to provide Philly with the right amount of mainstream exposure. The problem is, 80% of the time, he lives in LA, and his interests lies elsewhere. So we would need some Philly people to run it. The problem with that is most Philly people, still have their street ties. So who's gonna maintain it?
