Will Philly ever come back? Will a Philly cat ever make it a "Jay-Z, Nas, Big" level?

We need more rappers from the East Coast not from NYC period. But yeah Philly needs leadership and record labels.

Pink(hit philly in summer of '00, cam didnt bring it out til 01)

Philly did its thing on the fashion tip...
cant claim AF1s...and i dont think anyone from the city/region would

But Philly will never have the big mainstream artist like Hov/Big/Face/Snoop

Why?

Because if your not overly gangsta...the city wont fukk with you...(Freeway, love em...but doesnt get nearly as much love as some others)

If you are gangsta...the city will fukk with you...until they try to expose you(Joey Jihad)

If you are not exposed or fabricated, the law will catch up to you keeping your rhymes and life the same(Beanie/Peedi/Oschino)

If you are a supreme lyricist...again no city love(Black Thought)

If you are gangsta, not exposed, and the city still fukks with you....none of the local rappers will(Meek)

The idea of a Philly Label is hilarious to me...PhillySupportPhilly? Ya until somebody makes it...smh....remember TopKlass??? Headshots???

Or you end up in a little bit of each of those categories...hooked on pills

Really Will Smith/Eve did it right.....make the music to make the movies..
an real shyt....2 ppl u will never hear get hated on they same way Meek/Cass/Beans will get hated on

Just my 2 cents

new york rappers like fat joe will tell you otherwise.

new york took credit for alot of stuff that philly put down. ALOT.

so fat joe insinuated that upz is a philly benchmark? uptowns was a major staple in ny b4 they were called air force ones, matter a fact alot of nikkaz i know personally stopped fukkin with them when nelly dropped that song, and 4 the sake of not tryna derail the thread ima leave that last sentence alone seeing as u didnt even drop a list of what shyt ny supposedly stole from philly :youngsabo:

I thought Peedi Crack had sum star power, but he had sum stayin in jail power too:laff:....Beans a legend to me and one of the greatest of all tim period....but its true the east coast media ain't gon ever give the nod to a big name philly nikka over a big name NY artist which is understandable.....they not tryna hold philly artist back or nuthin from what I can see, philly just gotta play its position just like jersey.

If u never manage to capture NY acceptance strongly u probaly will be forgotten about bcuz NY overall controls hiphop media, its changin up a little bit.....but u can still have a perfectly legendary career without that if u go hard enuff....NY dikk lickin is just probaly the easiest route.

Its kinda funny tho most of the big name nikkas not from NY who seem to get the most rub and media push by NY media all kinda started gettin that thru affiliation with Jay or a Jay cosign.

Its not just the Air1s though. When they started making them with the NYC tag is when Philly stopped messing with them. Why do you think Sheed Wallace always played in them? Its all retro sneakers...Air Max 1s, AM 90s, Top Tens, Forums, Shells, older Jordans, NBs, Pumas, Saconys...Philly never effed with Reeboks like that, but we've always had a rich sneaker culture. Pastel colored shirts in the spring (pink, light blue, canary yellow, lime green). We kept Ralph flourishing when NY pretty much abandoned it. Philly has always had a distinct style, you could definitely tell us apart from NY. There has been times when there was mimicking on both sides but for the most part you could clearly tell us apart from a NY bul. And NY has stolen from us way more than we've taken from them.

Now back to the music. I think a label here eliminates much of the rivalries to latch on to a NY name. Most of the older rappers saw the usage from NY rappers, and stopped beefing. And the younger crowd need to display that same unity. Of course, we would still have to go through NY since that is the media hub, but at least they would all be on. MF, Phillys Most Wanted, Beanie were really all vying for one roster slot on Roc/IDJMG

You can't tell me that a Meek, Reed, Haddy, Cyssero, Chill Moody, Quilly, Young Hot, Frank Grippaz, NH, Chic Raw, Stacks Ruega, Scorp da Boy, Daddy-O, Ar Ab wouldn't have the game on lock under one label?

Or Reign Man (Izzie Farreal), Hollow Man, Kre Forch, Ape Gang, Nina Ross, Last Donna, Jakk Frost, Rosco P Coldchain, Pretty Ugly

Or a Gillie da Kid, Ab Liva, Beanie, Peedi, Black Thought, Ms Jade, Young Chris, Freeway, Sandman, E Ness, Oschino, Dutch, Charli Baltimore, Journalist, Cassidy.

For the most part there's unity here, but still need the outlet...that major push without having to be funneled through that NY filter.

In my area (camden county/cmd/sp) nikkas had already switched to white on white shelltops by then..

:what:

i didnt say anything about air forces.

what are you yappin about?

It's not a big deal

Philly and ny are the same region... Less than 2 hours apart... We've been influencing each other for 300 years

it is a big deal when one city takes & recieves the credit for everything.

a very big deal.

freestyle - nh, frank wit da grippaz, stacks ruger, tek 9 - YouTube

Or Reign Man (Izzie Farreal), Hollow Man, Kre Forch, Ape Gang, Nina Ross, Last Donna, Jakk Frost, Rosco P Coldchain, Pretty Ugly

Allotta truth here....Philly style could always be seen as different from ny
for example...do rags in public:whoa::whoa:
tims in the summer:whoa:
Bright colors in the summer...:to: thats my city right there

But the dudes round my age(im 25)....never got along
like ever...
Reed an Meek been beefin since like 06
Quilly/Haddy been beefin wit Meek since 08
Gillie to this day wont get on a track with the Young Guns cuz of that Ruckie shyt
And truth be told....a lot of the people you named all sound a like....there are not to many philly rappers who dont fall somewhere under the gillie/beanie/peedi/hova/joey jihad flow type...Like freeway is one of the few who anyone can say has their own lane

hey, im just going by what the credible posters that actually live in california have said. and they didnt say that nobody listened to kendrick. they just said that meek is getting more play out there on kendrick's so-called turf.

of course youre going to hear "swimming pools" in every car. its all over the radio!!!!!!

now this i agree with.

i never got into the "young chris is the future" hype.

he never had it in him to be a big solo star. he was better off in the young gunz as the primary emcee, trading verses with neef buck, who brought alot of stuff to the table that chris lacked.

but this is the era where everybody just has to go solo, and the music suffers because of that.

:heh: I live here brah and kendrick gets waaaaaay more play than meek. Imma meek fan and he doesnt get the shine he deserves, but its because he isnt out there doing features like all the other new artists.

meh, all that unity stuff is overrated.

the only people that need to be unified are the people that really matter behind the scenes, the djs, etc. and even then, you still need outlets first and foremost.

thats the real reason why the south is supposedly on top. that and strength in numbers like dude said earlier. they have the most black people and the most hip-hop cities......but even then, certain south cities fall to the wasteside. alabama has talent, but nobody gets any shine. mississippi. hell, new orleans is the reason the south took off in the 1st place and even they havnt had much shine since no limit folded and cash money went hollywood.

:heh: I live here brah and kendrick gets waaaaaay more play than meek. Imma meek fan and he doesnt get the shine he deserves, but its because he isnt out there doing features like all the other new artists.

dont take it up with me.

take it up with the posters from cali thats saying otherwise.

for what its worth, the last ive seen a cali poster say what i said was months ago. i wouldnt be surprised if cali is behind kendrick more now since theyre desperate for mainstream presence and kendrick is getting pushed heavy - no offense.

As far as popularity, Philly got Will Smith...
As far as catalog & skill, Philly got Black Thought... although IDK how big he is now, because of Fallon (I don't watch it)
