Where basketball "advanced stats" play a major role will be in how your round out your superstar. That's the key. The ones who don't follow it may be the teams that grossly overpay for inefficient players. The ones that do are the ones that look for a bargain in a league where it's hard to get them.
The advanced stats stuff already takes precedence in the draft. The eye test matters a lot, but if you can find cheap production that becomes serviceable, then you're in business. That's how the Spurs have been able to plug in guys to their system with very little effort. A guy like Kawhi Leonard grades out so well with advanced stats. A guy like say Austin Rivers, fails miserably.
It's not fool proof though, like anything.
