You shouldn't even be doing this. Our parents are :snoop: @ how expensive college became. Even what you said is true, we gonna be suffering in debt for years to come.

We light as well put the college administrators to trial and force them to pay back all the money they made from scamming people.
We're fighting from two different angles of the beast. You're beating on it with a stick from the outside and I'm trying to get inside it and explode it. If from this day forward no one used student loans to attend college, the student loan problem would dissipate. There are grants and scholarships available to help subsidize education but you do have to do a good deal of research in order to find them.

Research? to get an education? :stopitslime: Getting a grant should not be searching for gold. I rather blow up that damn institution and put all the administrators on trial for the biggest scam in American History.

It has become somewhat of a scam, I agree.

500% tuition increase since 1985 (well over inflation) :damn:

I actually straight up told my brother. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS ME, DO NOT GET A GRADUATE DEGREE IT IS NOT WORTH IT, GIVEN THE DEBT. He ain't listening though :snoop:

That is bullshyt. How can a decent person not get mad over it?

that's my problem....:to: (And I'm still working on finishing up the PhD, but I'm not taking out loans for that anymore, just paying out of pocket)

Thank God for IBR plans though (I only have to pay 15% of my income for the student loans, or I'd be fukking screwed as shyt)

Just couple questions, did you start your PhD as soon as you got your masters and what's your major?

:damn: just curious, but why are you paying for your phd? Did you turn down tuition remission & stipend? I've always been advised NOT to pay for a phd (it costs more money than it's worth).

making money >> getting good grades

easily

This. My problem going to college was that I didn't want to stop making money. A degree helps though when getting into a career to set yourself apart from the crowd. I've been trying to get a government job for a year now. I have connections and scored high on the entry exams . However, my connects tell me I just need to get a degree to get a look, whether its a B.A. or an A.A. I'm a class away from an an A.A. and I'll get it FINALLY in the Spring.

As for the making money part, I'm :eat: good for a single guy w/o kids and only w/ a little credit card debt. I just need some security in my life now. Don't have that in sales :yeshrug:

Oh I got free tuition, and a RA job for 20 hours a week. Guess how much I made a year before taxes, 14k. One can't live off 14k a year, without outside help. My fam wasn't able to do that, so I had to take out student loans.

The privilege my classmates had :wow: shyt pissed me the fukk off. If my daddy was giving me 20k extra a year, I wouldn't have had to take out 15k a year in student loans either :beli:

Okay. I feel you. My old roommate takes out an additional loan on top of her stipend. I just make it work, but I also had a lot of money saved from when I was an elementary school teacher (I'm RAing AND TAing next semester....I'm going to be living the life on that double money). Good luck with your dissertation (my good friend just successfully defended his dissertation in AGecon).
