You have some pretty valid points...but I think its fair to say you were pretty fukking dumb to think that of ALL the people that can break "the system"....you'd thought it be Trump. :francis:

Hillary may have been the establishment candidate but holy fukk....the shytty medicine is always better than the disease.
This is a much more reasonable response than the ones I have received so far. As I admitted, Trump has been worse than I previously thought he would be. But he has been breaking the system. Is that not what liberals and mainstream conservatives are up in arms over every week? He's destroying norms and eroding trust in the myth of American democracy and unassailable moral supremacy. He's expanding the realm of what is considered politically feasible and morally imperative in the name of systemic change.

Like, let me ask you a question. In the hypothetical universe where Hillary Clinton is President, do you we'd be seeing the spike in DSA membership we've seen? Do you think Bernie's Universal Healthcare plan gets the coverage and support it's getting? Do we see the increased level of political engagement we've been seeing from previously unengaged people? Trump is not the disease, he is the symptom.

I do not believe America's problems are superficial, I believe they're foundational. And to dismantle a structure as large and deeply rooted as the United States, you need a large scale awakening. This idiot's self own is actually very insightful:

Who is he talking about, that is what I asked, will you tell me.

The "We" is referring to the Obama administration which he ties to the concept of "Good Negro Government" as it was applied during South Carolina's Reconstruction period. He also explained in interviews that it loosely refers to his own journey and other Black journalists/writers who rose to prominence during the Obama administration.

@theworldismine13 lol McWhorter goes in, I never seen dude so fukking animated and visibly annoyed.

Personally, I think Coates is an amazing writer. As someone who studied English lit, his sentences and use of language is top notch. And I find when he explained his writing style to Alex Wagner it finally made sense why I rock with him even though I disagree with his conclusions. Stanley Crouch is another dude who is a great writer but often has flimsy analysis.

I watched yesterday, yeah he is really upset lol

They are doing a bit of c00ning imo, tnc can hate white people if he wants, they same to be playing a save a cac card

IMO the real problem is he has no solutions side from more liberalism, I agree with them on that

I think McWhorter just doesn't respect Coates as an intellectual I watched the old bloggingheads and it came across pretty clearly that he sees Coates as just another angry Black intellectual who is performing a type of outrage that makes White people feel as though they have depth. His description of how White people react to Coates is pretty accurate, his description of Coates's work itself is not. Coates is not saying that racism explains ALL of what has occurred, but plays a substantial part.

Every interview I've seen of Coates says to me if he really debated his critics one on one, he'd wash them.

Why does he need solutions? He's not obligated to be a superhero.

Yeah I don't know about that. He is not "washing" Loury and he didn't "wash" McWhorter in that Bloggingheads video. Just cause you rock with him doesn't mean you have to get hyperbolic.

I believe, he would WASH Loury and definitely McWhorter.

And ive listened to every episode of Loury's going back at least 2 years.

They love punching at Coates cause he's "the guy" right now but Coates undersells how adept he is when it comes to these topics.

Man, this further proves Coates critics really dont understand him. Dude is really ahead of them. They dont know that he doesn't proclaim to be an authority, wiseman, or have predictions:

@ogc163 listen at 1:00:30 he directly addresses that Thomas Williams article in the NYTimes
