I had to confirm this shyt with pops since he actually knows how to boil.
You cook the crawfish only for a few minutes while the water is boiling and they are basically done. After that you cut off the burner and dump in the ice. The reason for the ice is to drop the temperature so the crawfish doesn’t continue to cook in the water while they are soaking for 20-30 mins
If you didn’t do ice the water would still be boiling hot while the crawfish soaked and they over cook and get mushy.
Also when you drop the temperature below boiling the heads fill up with the water faster and start to sink to the bottom of the pot. It makes the soaking time more effective.
I asked him about oranges and he said that shyt ain’t his wave but he claims he can’t taste the difference when it’s added. He knows some people black and white who do oranges or pineapples

I thought y'all just put the pot on a simmer after the boil...
can't I get them deveined and prepared like shrimp without the shell...I think they sell just the tail meat but peeling them is part of eating crawfish breh plus their is meat in the claws and some folks even suck the headscan't I get them deveined and prepared like shrimp without the shell...

PAUSE....

Nah Gumbo is basically a gravy with sausage and seafood and stuff. That is part of preparing crawfish. You heat the water with your seasonings, and sides like corn , sausage, Turkey necks, etc and then put your crawfish in there to boil and you get what i Posted aboveIs that gumbo? Sorry but I'm not from the south.
