This was a nothing burger. As has been said Sony and Nintendo won’t allow it anyway so it wasn’t going to happen.

He didn’t shut anything down, all he said is they have no plans on putting it on playsation or nintendo at the moment, like yeah…no shyt :mjlol:
So wtf are y'all even discussing if they have no plans at the moment? Phil has said they want xcloud/gamepass on everything that they can be on for over a year or so now.

But since y'all been on this Xbox is going 3rd party train y'all trying to connect dots that don't even have anything to do with each other :mjlol:

Y'all need to be worried about what Sony and PlayStation are doing behind the scenes over there. For a change MS and Xbox seem to have a VERY clear road map that also allows for pivots.

PlayStation....not so much so

This is their future. Xbots can sit and posture, but we all see the writing on the wall. I wouldn't be surprised if there's eventually a GamePass+ section on PlayStation Plus that would just have their top past exclusives.
The main issue is would Playstation users sub to an ea play version of gamepass? I think there's much more to lose for Microsoft if they start selling games on PS store because people will migrate to Sony. Then they would lose the 30% cut they get from third party games and microtransactions.

Better to get 30% cut of a larger pie than 100% cut of a much smaller one

Hence, everyone putting their games on steam along with their own storefronts. Microsoft could get 100% of their game profits from people using their windows store but they know they’d make far less money in the long run on pc

I think the major issue is that they most likely can't get 20 million users on windows store since PC gamers are 90% on steam, and I doubt they can cut into PC market share. At least on console each generation they can sell 45million-80million consoles. So, it wouldn't make sense to lose 20million+ users on consoles when they're getting 30% cut on third party and microtranscations. I don't think they would be able to maintain 40million console users a generation if they put their games on Playstation, which will then effect how much revenue they gain from having a storefront. Having a storefront is valuable and it would be a major risk to throw that away imo.

We’re only having this conversation because it’s not looking that way anymore.

Their hardware sales are falling behind the Xbox One which was a huge drop off from the 360 already. If in their biggest year with new hardware (series s 1tb) their biggest game ever with as much hype behind it as starfield, to STILL be falling behind the XOne?

Thats worth a discussion as much as some people want to continue to shrug it off. When you invest 100 billion into software that you want a decent return on and your hardware isn’t helping, whats the alternative routes to take?

Yeah, I think we have to wait and see how the generation ends, but it def seems Series console might fall below Xbox One sales, which were 58million. However, if they can get close to that. Then it might not all be bad for them, but they really need to turn it around because they're losing markets. It will be interesting to see where things land for them, but the day they put games on Playstation is the day an exodus would happen, which results in losing a ton of revenue imo.

Tencent is one of the biggest gaming companies out in terms of revenue and they don’t own a platform. If microsoft is all in on content and services and engagement why do they care if the end goal is making money like everyone here keeps saying?

There are xbox stans literally counting down the days for cloud and streaming to take over, and thats probably what Microsoft is waiting for also. Saying they Won’t exit the hardware business and then proclaiming that hardware is a dated concept and isn’t part of the long game for them and/or the industry is a contradiction
