Saying a player deserves the MVP isn't a commentary on their career or potential or long-term ranking, it's a comment on their production in a current season. When Matt Ryan or Cam Newton deservedly won the MVP it didn't mean they were now Hall of Famers. And the fact they both had a fall off season the next year didn't invalidate whether they deserved the MVP the year before. Last year until the Christmas Day Ravens game Purdy was at the top of the league in almost every relevant metric for a QB, so of course he was considered an MVP candidate. He's regressed this year as the team around him has imploded. There's nothing contradictory about those two facts.

Lions signed Jared Goff to a deal that made him the 2nd highest paid player in league history and they currently have the #2 rated offense in the league, so unless you think Goff is in an elite tier far above Purdy then I don't think this will be that much of a problem. Good drafting and offensive scheme is more important than going all in on high priced FA skill players.

Going back to the MVP thing, I’m lost at how that is even a question when;
- He had the numbers
- He had the wins
- at the end of the day he was still a big reason to this team even getting back there. When just prior, the team was in the same situation the previous years fully loaded with EVERYONE but he gets hurt and no one else can function. If they would’ve made it with their 4th string or No QB yall would have something
My thing is why it is ok to praise other guys when they have all their strengths around them and they play well (though when they don’t and play bad, no one shyts on them as bad) and why Purdy have to be judged on a different scale to a degree?
I think no matter who they are, if you take away the key pieces for any QB and other areas of the game are not playing with and the QB slightly struggles you can put that solely them.
Now if a QB has EVERYTHING THEY NEEDS and struggling, yes there clear sign They may not be good and teams should move away from them
