No, Carson Palmer started the not being able to.hit a QB low. It was remphasized for Brady, yeah, but it was already in place for 3 years plus. Not landing on a QB, was a result of Rodgers having his collarbone broken in 2017. Not being able to blow up a WR was a lawsuit thing and also a James Harrison/Ryan Clark rule.

I think this is actually an interesting discussion. We all agree that you can't do a 1-to-1 statistics comparison between a quarterback in the 1980s and a quarterback in the 2010s, but how do you suggest comparing quarterbacks across eras?

I think the best way to compare is by advanced stats, also factoring in tbeir supporting casts, accolades and their stature in the league during their time.

And would you agree that the game's evolution has required modern quarterbacks to play at a more advanced, skilled level? For example, if you look at the quality of throws and decision-making that Drake Maye has to have under his belt to play high-level, winning quarterback play and compare it to say Jim McMahon or Mark Brunell, do you acknowledge the game is much harder now for quarterbacks, even given the rules changes?

Comparing Brunell to McMahon is kind of egregious. Brunell was alot more prolific a passer. He showed big time arm ability. Hence why he led the league in passing. Also his WRs produced mega numbers with him. McMahon was mostly a caretaker. He could hit a bomb to Gault, but he wasnt doing what Brunell was. See some of the dominant seasons that Jimmy Smith. Its actually wayy easier for QBs, the last 15 years. Esp since 2018 on...You cant use QB hits/physicality to punish and intimidate a QB. You can throw slants and square in, knowing that your WR wont be knocked out the game, and if he is hit hard, the flags will come flying. They were already monstrous pass rushers like Reggie, Bruce, DT, Sapp, Haley, Kevin Greene, and coverages had already evolved. Zone blitzing was into play, Tampa 2, and 2 deep was already becoming prevalent. So they faced he sophistication along with the physicality.

I would rather have Matt Stafford quarterbacking my 1990s team than Boomer Esiason quarterbacking my 2020s team.

I can agree with that, but I wouldnt say Stafford was better than a Jim Kelly or a Cunningham or Moon

One thing ppl.ignore, is that the NFL was getting criticized for being too slanted towards the defense in the early 90's, so heading into 94, several rules were implemented and highlighted to produce more scoring. Which worked!! Hence some of.the monster seasons from QBs and WRs from 94-96
