I don't look down on them but I know the feeling. Years ago when I was in college I got fired from a call center job that was paying decent money. I had other job opportunities but they were 9-5 type of gigs so I wouldn't be able to take my classes. I settled on a security job making minimum wage. Going from making a decent living to making barely shyt was a humbling experience. That was long ago but whenever I get upset about my current career I have to remind myself it could be worse.

That's why I always treat people at these low wage jobs with respect and decency.

Amen brotha. Ain't nothing wrong with folks willing to work. I worked a ton of minimum wage jobs in college. Talked about it here (such as working at a chicken plant). The shyt builds character and willingness to get your hands dirty if you ever fall on hard times. Also makes you respect money when you start making some cause you know how hard it is for folks who make none (cause you been there).

Yeap retail will humble you.You clean up a spot and some motherfukker who does not even buy shyt will mess things up.But you know who has it just as hard if not worse?
Cleaners.I feel for the men and women who have to clean up public toilets.I have more respect for the guy who sweeps the street over the guy who is wearing the suit and heading to wall street.

No I don't because that could easily be me or you and these people work hard. I went to mcdonalds the other day and there is lik no break there until its your break its just constant constant. While I'll go to work close my office door and do what I want.

Not everyone working there is some hs dropout or fresh off the boat immigrant, always be thankful for what you have.

Pride cometh before fall, I never look down on anyone

I remember working at Walmart, clocking in 3-6 minutes late after lunch and then sleeping for another hour inside the trailer truck.

Manager asked where I was and I told them I was looking for a specific item in the trailer because it wasn't on the shelves or warehouse.

When they told me to collect carts, I'd go to the nearby gas station, cop a tall can and chill in my car.

Yo i tried hard to be the reliable worker when I worked retail but looking back on it I should of done shyt like this:russ:

I remember in High School the guys and the girls who weren't exactly nice to me, hoes called me a "lame". I was what you would call the dork who had a "glow up"

Hit the gym heavy, fixed my hygiene, style, grew taller.

Anyways, I was invited to a prestigious well-known gala .. and some of those ppl who made fun of me were the bussers, bartenders and servers.

They were like :gladbron: "I SEE YOU DOIN YOUR THING MAN"

Now, I could of been like :scust: But i kept it humble and let me actions speak.
End of the day, be nice to everyone.

Know what you mean, I was working the night shift on New Years Eve at this grocery store like 5-6 years ago and it was dead besides about 5 other employees. I worked in Produce so you know there was like no one around in the department outside of buying dip or some shyt but I was cleaning and this white lady dressed up like she's going to a party walked through. She copped some spinach dip then stopped by me and said "Thank you, I know people probably don't say anything to you because it's a grocery store job but I'm here to let you know that you're doing a great job". She then wrote down my name and said she's going to call the main offices and tell them that i'm a great employee.

She ended up doing it which was cool, I ended up having like 5 or 6 regular costumers who would call me up and request I save whatever for them. They were random as races too, Russian lady, Indian, Polish, Hispanic guy, White guy etc. The Russian lady got too comfortable and ended up trying trying to kiss me on the lips as a way of saying goodbye :gucci: had to cut it after that :pachaha:having regular customers to fukk around with was pretty much the only way I was able to handle working there. Only problem were them using me as a way to get shyt. One guy stayed going in the back room like "Hey Brandeezy, where you at my man, I need your help real quick" and my coworkers would be like

I haven’t worked in retail since I was 20 and I’m 32 now. :wow:

Honestly my memories of low wage work are actually pretty good because I was so young and kicking it at work with people my same age. Spent my wages on video games and clothes since I didn’t have to worry about paying rent.

I honestly would probably have to off myself if I was trapped there at my age. :mjcry:

That’s how my low wage days went. I was making $4.25 an hour at McDonald’s but it was all good since I had fun kicking it at work and didn’t have any bills. I do remember there were cats working there that were 50+ years old.

Also, I have a lot of respect for anyone working at Walmart. I only stayed one day but that was hands down the hardest job I ever had in my life. Not to mention that all the customers treat you like shyt and they act like their shyt don’t stink. Pay was only $7.45 an hour so it was humbling.

Good that you stayed humble. Just like Sinatra said, the best revenge is massive success.

I did it for years, started IT at 40, recently got fired so I'm not working. I told myself I'm gonna give it a few months but if I'm just a low wage brotha (and I know a lot of folks like that in SFLA) I'm moving to Arkansas or something and will accept my fate.

But I'm not gonna work a shytty job around most you people, no offense but you'll make a nikka off himself due to depression.

So if that's who I am I'm moving to Arkansas or some hick ass state and just calling it a day.

I grew up in that same low income waiting on Jesus environment so I understand how it goes.

I felt like killing myself years back working in the mailroom at a job in downtown Miami, seeing all them educated black folks with suits and ties had me feeling away, sisters looked at me like I was a straight bum in the street. I'm still in my feelings over it today and that was years back.

Where I work there's an older black gentleman who delivers lunch trays TO the patients. He walks all over the hospital pushing a cart and you can tell he has a bad hip. He is the nicest guy and is in his mid-70s. He is supporting grown sons and grandchildren so he can't retire. I felt so bad every time I saw him pushing those carts in obvious pain.

I see a lot of older black people like that at my job and it's truly heart breaking. I also see the younger ones (in their 20s and 30s) who are replacing them.

I know that feeling and it's sad.

Last year i was at chick fil a drive through. And doing busy times they have the employees outside in the heat taking orders.

Pulled up and it was a guy i remembered from high school. He said hey man you look familiar, where you from???

I had to pretend like i didn't know him too awkward

I had a similar thing happen back when I worked R&D at HP...

Went to get a last minute christmas gift for a cousin or whatever at an outlet mall... went into some random thift shop and got her an alarm clock with birds on it or some shyt...

Man the dude who checked me out was a dude I went to college with...he looked ROUGH...like sleeping on a park bench ROUGH...

He wanted that commission so damn bad...he was boxing out anyone else at the store from talking to me scared they were going to take his sale of this shytty little 5 dollar clock...

I was like damn the game cold :wow:

Also I worked at UPS for a few months...the first check I got :wow:

Straight up told the supervisor something GOT to be wrong with my check cause this aint enough...I done lost 7 pounds this week alone loading these heavy ass packages...:mjcry:

Looked me dead in my eye and was like it's all there:francis:

Had to double them apply clicks on careerbuilder and monster and indeed.com...I was like I can't live like this a second longer than I have to :wow:

UPS was :wow:...I knew a chick who was legit making like 30 dollars a week working their :damn:
