You gotta put your child's future into consideration when naming them.

Yeah, it is unfortunate. While I oppose the discrimination, I'm not one of those parents who's going to do something to the detriment of my child, just to make a point.
A lot of the recent pseudo-Black Power young people are just like "fukk cacs, I'll name my kids whatever I want." And its cool that you think naming your son Hennessey is "fighting the system" but its not.
lol

I think Names llike "Henessey" are the extreme and not that common. I used to think people were just saying that people name their kids Henessey and that it wasnt necessarily true....
And then i met someone with real name "Henessey" :snoop:
Sad thing is... He's a good kid too. Very smart. He should be 18 or 19 by now. I volunteered to tutor like 6 years ago and he was one of the kids i helped with math. Sad that he will have to fight with that stigma. And that is why i am mad at the parents.

If your kid doesn't have opportunities afforded to them, it's because you failed them as a parent.. not because of a name.

Pass down some houses and wills, not bad credit and bills.

White people name their kids Parchment, Butterpecan, and Skipper and that shyt doesn't matter because they got 'cism and old money on their side.

But, yeah some of our names are head scratchers.

In a class of 50 at my high school there were three kids named after alcohol :russ: Alize, Chardonn'e and Hennessey (he was White).
A lot of creative names at my school, and the stigma is honestly the worst part, hopefully he can trudge through it and end up a successful adult. Alize and Chardonn'e are both single mothers now :francis:

Maurice and Antoine are only discriminated against in the United States. That's because it's a french name but black americans seem to like the pronunciation and started naming their kids that thus it's perceived as a "black name"

I have an uncle (mom;s cousin) and two colleagues named Maurice. Both the colleagues are white and work with our partner companies.
Maurice apparently comes from "Moor". At least when i Google the meaning

I remember this Tumblr post that showed varying African diaspora names that sounded similar to the more popular "creative Black names" and people were tying to claim the made-up names were of African origin, knowing damn well the parents who named their kid Shontavius or Shaniqua couldn't show you Nigeria on a map :dead:

Ah... i see. Didnt know that part.

But in the francophone community names like Maurice, Antoine, Etienne and many others that are perceived as "black names" here are very common names for people of all shades and color

A name is one of the most powerful things you will ever give your child. No compromises.

I'm African, likely to marry another African, despite having a "black" English name (like a Jermaine) i'm giving my child all African names.

Smh I usually fukk with you with your opinions. But this one is straight down c00n alley breh. Ask black people to conform to the simplest most ignorant form of racism, cause lord help us these racist will prevent them from getting good jobs. Nah Breh. fukk that. Name your kids whatever the fukk you want. Make sure their names represent class and education. You do that by instilling that in them. A name don't have shyt to do with character. You should know that based on your hero.
