He's not getting 25 mil breh, at most he's getting 15-18 mil. You just have to understand at some point that unless you're getting FA's, which you aren't, then you might need to eat that contract and trade the player who does not fit at all into your future plans, and that's Jah. Doesn't make sense to trade him for the sake of saving cap space when you aren't using your cap space for anything worthwhile.

Now I will say that if Embiid comes out there and makes Noel expendable then you trade him AND Jah, but you don't just trade him only for the sake of saving cap space.

Its not just about keeping space, its about keeping space and potentially getting someone who could be a better fit

They could have traded noel to the kings and drafted marquese chriss

If youre philly and youre trying to convince a free agent to join you

A. "Hey, we've got ben simmons, joel embiid, jahlil okafor, marquese chriss, 2 top 10 picks from the 2017 draft, and room to sign 2 max contracts"

Or

B. "Hey, weve got ben simmons, embiid, okafor, chriss, two top 10 picks, nerlens noel, and room for 1 max contract"

I think A is clearly the more attractive option.....plus option A puts them in a better position to get a higher pick in one of the more stacked classes weve seen over the last few years

Hinkie woulda got it right.

But they didn't trade him and draft Chriss, so that's a moot point. The earliest they should be trading Noel from this point forward would be near the trade deadline, not now, and if they did trade him they wouldn't be able to trade him for a player that has a rookie contract, not for equal value anyway. Most likely they're going to be matching an offer sheet, which will NOT be to the tune of 25 million. Plus, they need to be at least sniffing the playoffs before a FA goes there, and even if they were I doubt a FA will go there.

They might have to do this thing organically, can't keep putting your team in a position to win less games year after year and expect FA's to come. Hinkie wanted to have his cake and eat it too, stockpile top 5 picks and expect FA's to come after acquiring enough, but that doesn't work.

He couldn't even fetch the 3rd pick in this draft but now people are gonna pay him 25 million? :martin:

the two aren't connected

teams are planning on offering noah the max and nobody would give up a lotto pick for that bum

just because one GM isn't stupid doesn't mean that none of the other 29 teams will offer noel 25

delladova is about to get 10 mil. what do you think noel will be offered?

I keep em all and play big ball to combat the inferior small ball lineups.

Even if you play "big ball", you still can't play all of them.

Simmons is a 4. It's where he'll face the most mismatches. Noel, Embiid, and Okafor are all 5's. How are you going to divide 48 minutes between them? Mind you, there will be times where Simmons plays the 5 (as an experiment) and the team also has Jerami Grant and most likely Dario Saric. You gonna pack Embiid and Noel in the paint like sardines on offense? That would never work, for the same reason playing Noel and Okafor didn't work. Terrible spacing that kills your offense.

The minutes just aren't there. And if Noel or Okafor play single digit minutes or not at all it will hurt their trade value. At the very least one of them HAVE to go.

Assuming Embiid is healthy, the projected starting lineup is...

Embiid
Simmons
Covington
Statkus
Smith

With Okafor, Noel, McConell, others off the bench...

Okafor or Noel need to be traded for shooting guard or upgrade at point guard, Covington isn't bad for starting the 3 spot.

I think Okafor for Monta Ellis or Rodney Stuckey(or both), Jordan Hill picks is good deal for both teams
Why would a 17 and 7 in his rookie year center come off the bench ?

Okafor is a nice player but he seems like he isn't gonna be a good defender

plus... his off-court issues:wow:
