so Missy aint hip hop now? :wtf:

loosely.
shes an r&b artist that "raps".
same way timbo was an r&b producer(now a pop producer) with hip-hop drums.

timbo & missy really arent even hip-hop people. go ask ms jade for further emphasis.

a) what makes something most hip hop are its drums. You use hip hop drums, you're already 70% hip hop

b) ms jade is but one opinion on this whole shyt, and she's not exactly the most qualified

c) do you have a link for ms jade's comments?

you can find her comments on one of those youtube interviews. she doesnt have alot.

and she isnt saying anything that any rap fans didnt already peep about how they handled her career & ruined her draw. so to say that ms jade is "just one opinion" is far off.

sounds even better.

:ehh:

its not about just me. im hip-hop.

you up here trying to hoist phat rabbit & missy elliot into the rafters.

jay-z been p*ssy-footing on a timbo album for years. he waited until standards were gone & the coast was clear.

You don't represent all Hip Hop. No one person represents all of Hip Hop. What you're doing is making up criteria and "standards" in attempt to pass your opinion off as fact.

I didn't hoist "Phat Rabbit" or Missy Elliott into the rafters. Ludacris is an MC that gets his respect. He's an artist that's had a respectable career in Hip Hop. He got his introduction on "Phat Rabbit" and Ludacris himself will tell you that.

Name another female rapper who released six relevant albums. She carved out her own niche in Hip Hop and actually has a legacy (pushing boundaries both visually and sonically with her videos and Timbaland's production).

What standards? Jay Z worked with Timbaland for years from '98 forward. Jay Z never entrusted one producer to produce an entire album for him so your whole "Jay avoided a Timbo album" and "standards were gone" argument holds no weight.

Timbaland isn't an R&B producer, he's a producer. That's like saying Quincy Jones is a Jazz producer. A lot of what he did was in the Jazz genre, but his work encompasses much more than that. He produced songs and albums for a wide range of artists ranging from Michael Jackson to Chaka Khan to Aretha Franklin to Frank Sinatra. Not saying that Timbaland is Quincy Jones, but similarly he produced a wide range of artists ranging from Jay Z to Missy Elliott, Aaliyah to Justin Timberlake. To limit him or other producers that have are proficient in multiple musical genres is ignorant.

:laff:at Missy being an R&B artist. Her rap records were bigger than the R&B songs she put out. Her main appeal was rapping. "Get Ur Freak On", "Work It" and "Lose Control" are her biggest songs and all of them are her rapping, not singing.

all im saying is that if its based on hip-hop, then timbaland is the odd man out.

somebody has to go, and he isnt behind anything thats mandatory or groundbreaking.

now if we're talking music as a whole, his r&b keeps him in. kanye would have to go.

The only one who's not getting the memo is you. You can't say that "nobody" cares about "Phat Rabbit" because you only represent one person. All I'm seeing here is you speaking on a subject you know nothing about. You're posing as a "hip hop head" to disguise the fact that you don't know what you're talking about. You always do that to dismiss, downplay, or deflect instead of just simply stating your opinion and leaving it at that. Instead, you always try to paint yourself as a "cultural guy" without really offering the background or perspective to back up your claims other than making broad generalizations.

Again, you're downplaying. It's laughable to say Timbaland isn't behind anything groundbreaking or mandatory. Timbaland is only out in relation to Hip Hop in regard to his discography. In terms of breaking ground or anything mandatory, Kanye would be out. Simply because his sound wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for Timbaland. Those aren't my words, but it's fact based on Kanye saying he used to make beats that were Dre, Timbaland, and Pete Rock caliber. On top of that, he stated that Graduation wouldn't sound like it does if it wasn't for what Timbaland did with Justin for Futuresex/Lovesounds. "But Justin is a Pop artist". Take that argument up with Kanye who had Timbaland re-do the drums on two songs on Graduation. Prince Paul, a fellow Hip Hop producer also pointed out Timbaland's influence on "Flashing Lights" from the same album.

You also have guys like a Stevie J who says Timbaland's sound influenced "Notorious Thugs". There's a plethora of Hip Hop producers who cite Tim as an influence. To say he's done nothing groundbreaking or mandatory is comedy. Only thing I will agree with is that he hasn't produced any essential Hip Hop albums.
