I still say the best stretch of consistently good 3 hours RAWs was from July 2012 to about April 2013 where you had Punk's transition from Face to Tweener to Heel, Team Hell No, Rise of Ryback, Shield debut, The Rock as WWE Champion, Taker/Punk feud etc...

Then the rest of 2013 featured Bryan being WWE Champion and feuding with the Authority, Henry's fake retirement, Wyatt family debut, AJ/Kaitlyn being the first interesting Women's feud in forever, Punk's return and feud with Lesnar etc..

Like always there was a lot of bullshyt back then but it sounds way more interesting than the 2017 RAWs do :heh:

The Shield being so well booked for more than a year made RAW pretty fun to watch during that stretch. They pretty much had 30-45 minutes quality TV locked almost every week with a 6 man match (sometimes a tag title match) and segment or promo that was interesting and kept them looking like a big deal.

Once they had that solid foundation everything else kinda fell into place. Bryan's rise went hand in hand with his battles with The Shield and his breakout year from Team Hell No - while maintaining their fun fukkery that made them so popular - and a lot of other people felt fresher when fighting them. The Cody/Goldust feud with them and The Authority was gold for almost 2 months. And then you had the dope Wyatt Family mini rivalry with outstanding matches.

So when you have a portion of the show that will give you good, lengthy matches consistently and good promos or segments, then it's much easier to watch those 3 hours because 90% of the time there's always at least ONE thing worth a damn on RAW that would go along with whatever The Shield were doing.

some reddit mark makes salient points:

Speaking of presentation, I absolutely loath backstage interviews.

A shot always fades to some generic guy/gal staring blankly into the camera for an awkward amount of time.

"Ladies and Gentlemen [Wrestler Name]"...

Wrestler reads robo-promo and interviewer just unnaturally stares blankly into the distance as we fade to the next shot. Is this interviewer an actual human being or a Disney theme park animatronic?

It's fukking nauseating.

Why not have an interviewer walk up and knock on a locker room door or be seen catching a wrestler backstage and have a walking interview? Like paparazzi style. Dig for it you know? These are tough angry dudes that fight out their differences! They don't even have followup questions most of the time. It's usually, "I'll ask this generic question and then you talk a lot and walk away." Have interviewers actually end interviews, maybe make a journalistic conclusion for the audience and direct it back to commentary or the ring.

Make it seem like the interviewers want this job and be fukking feisty and are trying to get scoops on what's going through these wrestlers's minds. Because right now it seems like backstage interviews are just ways for wrestlers to monologue to themselves, but that would be weird, so we'll put an attractive Sears catalog model next to them.

It's all lazy and sterile tripe. There's nothing RAW about it.

EDIT: Also why is everything a titantron?! When wrestlers got their own theme songs it was awesome. Then music videos to go with a giant titantron? Pretty awesome. NOW: Make the entire entrance a titantron! And put a thinner titantron above the titantron entrance! And surround all that with two towers of smaller titantrons! The ramp? Make it a GIANT TITANTRON! AWWW Yeaaah all the way down. Oh shyt you're right the ring! Better make it a titantron. The turnbuckles. The apron. Probably the mat soon.

Oh no, no, no..i credit Bryan with making the Shield shyt legit. Every 6 man was Bryan in the heart of it and fans cared about him way more than Kane, Blandy, or Shield. He built them up. Bit he got way, way more over than them.

I really miss the Shield, first group they booked correctly since Evolution. While they weren't individually World Champions during their time together, they were in the middle of WWE Title storylines, they debuted as Heyman and Punk's goons, they attacked Cena, attacked Taker, were goons for the Authority and then turned on them months later. They really were the nucleus of RAW in 2013 & 2014.
