Jerrod Carmichael Officially Comes Out as Gay on His HBO Special ‘Rothaniel’

This was a great special. Hard to describe, I definitely went through a lil roller coaster watching this. The first part was classic standup about his family which was great if you like Jerrod, the stories about his name and grandpas was good. Then he broke the news, the whole tone kind of changed. It got back a cracked a few gay jokes but I was like, I hope this isn’t just what this becomes. But then he talked about telling his Dad, his brother, and his mom and that was pretty strong just kind of talking about the layers and nuisance to coming out. It was awkward at times but 100% genuine like him not knowing how to respond to people cheering him being gay. Coming from a straight guy it good stuff and I thought he did a good job with it

Mooney never came out as gay but the rumors had been around pretty much his whole career.
A couple of his sons have said he was bisexual after he died though.

Is Rothaniel supposed to be his boyfriend?

Pretty sure that’s not due to the fact that he’s gay and the fact that he had the fastest song ever to reach DIAMOND status. The song is 16x DIAMOND dude. He never has to make another song again. Like you said in his statement his songs have not been performing as well as old town road since he came out. So tell me how is that supposed to support your argument?

Seems like it’s been tough coming out to his mom by the strain it’s put on their relationship and her not being fully accepting of it

yeah he was pressing her a few years ago about having same sex encounters/attraction in a previous special about his family and hometown . it was a thread about it here. kinda fukked up they arent close anymore bc of it, their life to live
