No they're not. If a white kid without a degree is building more wealth than black kids with degrees, you expect me to believe that white kids with "terrible" majors are having trouble finding well paying jobs? This is the crux of the issue....

Yes biology is a horrible degree for everyone unless you plan to continue your education.

Yeah people also need to learn to pick better majors or career paths.

I know a dude from high school. He wanted to be in the medical field so he looked into careers that had decent pay and shorter school/training time and then at what he would actually enjoy doing. Of course RN nursing came up associate degree starting off AT LEAST $25/hr but he didn't see himself enjoying the work so he found Respiratory therapy interested him. Went to school for 18 months by age 20 got a job starting at $24 dollars an hour and now he's 27 years old with 7 years experience making $28/hr working has a respiratory therapist and he loves his job. Yeah he's not rich but he's very comfortable and had a plan out of high school that he stuck too.

It's sad but the reality is we need to stick together. shyt, we used to stick together during the biblical era, why not now? It's pretty clear that white people and other race despise/envy black people. We need to be more like Africans when it comes to ownig a business. I know a few Africans that owns their own business and banking off of that.
More black's should look into more trades or the military (I know, I know). Black people that are in higher position need to hire more blacks if we want to win.

I'm not really arguing that, my point is that a white kid with or without a biology degree fares better in terms of building wealth than a black kid would who has a degree as pointed out in the article. In other words discrimination in the job market is the key issue.

I'm not hating on getting an education but here is an interesting quote from Marcus Garvey (who's birthday was yesterday)

“Our critics say that the race problem will be solved through higher education, through better education, then Black and white will come together. That day will never happen until Africa is redeemed,” Garvey said. “Because if those who, like W.E.B. Du Bois, believe that the race problem will be solved in America through higher education, they will walk between now and eternity and never see the problem solved.”

Part of it is the fact that a lot of Black people major in bullshyt in college.

A construction worker who dropped out of high school is going to make nearly as much or more money and live more comfortably than a person who has degrees in english, sociology, psychology, women's studies, exercise science, sports studies, etc. and a bunch of debt.

We don't have the networks to be able to major in weak shyt and still be able to land a good job.

Maybe one day we'll have a network of Black businesses that can absorb a lot of Black graduates.

Until that time, nikkas need to be majoring in marketable shyt like Math, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, etc.

I agree. Like most things when it comes to wealth and race it's a multitude of factors, but I definitely agree with this one. I went to UofH, at the time, 2nd most diverse university in the country. We have a significant black population here and you can see it on campus, dorms etc. I majored in Economics and there was rarely anyone who looked like me in my upper level coursework. Most of the time if there was another black person they were African. Nothing wrong with that, but the shear lack of AA's in these classes bothered me.

That being said, despite, internship experience, a high GPA, student organization it still took me a while to get a job, and the lady that hired me was definitely on the progressive side of thinking when it came to social matters. I actually had to do an internship AFTER I graduated so that I could get a job with the company. Call it what you want, but I know lily whites from my same graduating class who were up and working not two weeks after they graduated. The racial component here is undeniable and I hate when CACs try to slide it under the rug. You can't really notice this until you live in an area like Houston, a city with a very prominent black population, but still when I walk into the office, when I see the people directly in the oil field, I see 95% white faces. It's a scam rigged in their favor which is why I do everything in my power to put any black person on if possible. Eventually entrepreneurship is the goal so I can do this on a wider scale.

Better stop equating black and Puerto Ricans. In Florida Puerto Rican get hired WAYYY before
blacks. In fact they attempt to Black fired to get other Puerto Ricans hired.

When I used to live in Orlando all the PRs got all the blacks fired from this one CVS.

I've noticed that. The majority of the Black kids at my expensive school are crowded into BS majors (I am too, but I can go into Accounting, and am going to law school in a year).
There are almost no Black kids in Engineering, Physics, Pre-Med (two of the girls that are have trash GPAs and won't make it past the MCAT), or Mathematics.
And because our families push "college" instead of "successful major and career afterward" a lot of Black kids go, pick Communications, smoke and drink all 4 years and then write long Tumblr articles about how this generation is screwed employment-wise, and that college is a big scam.

Most Black American males major in communications, political science, exercise science, AfAm studies, etc.

Most Black American females major in sociology, psychology, AfAm studies, early childhood education, women's studies, etc.

None of those majors lead to major earnings at the mid-career mark.

In my opinion, you should only minor in those things unless you plan to go to professional school (medical, law, etc.) right after college.
