Not even trying to be disrespectful cause the dude is talented and penned records for others, but no one is checking for a James Fauntleroy anything, that's why dude left the game. So who cares really

James Fauntleroy is one of the most sought after writers in the game and co-wrote or wrote a lion's share of some of the biggest albums and songs this decade.

you got two artist that on any given day may give you a different top5

at what point was ye considered an elite mc¿

that's not how 99.9% of folk perceive ye

you can't take that lil .1% that hype him like that's regular

you can keep your opinion that's cool

blessings

Breh, you're straight up delusional. There's no way to quantify that that's not how 99.9% of people perceive Kanye. That's all fine if that's what you believe, but that's not reality. I came with proof and you're still in here moving goal posts and caping because it goes against the narrative you're trying to push.

Ya'll sit up here in cry about how the culture was co-opted and are in here caping for one of the biggest catalysts of why Hip Hop is where it is now. Kanye opened the lane for

1) Effeminate rappers to make melancholy Pop records and pass them off as Hip Hop

2) MC's to get a pass for ghostwriting as long as they make great music

3) Pitchfork, Anthony Fantano, and other corny reviewers to dictate what passes for quality Hip Hop

^^^ and he's not being held accountable by the same people who are quick to condemn artists following his lead.

More copping pleas.

There's proof in this thread of greats like Common putting Kanye in his top 5. You have Fat Joe who has worked with nearly every great to some capacity putting Kanye in a Top 5. And here we are moving goal posts and putting spins on proof because posters refuse to admit Kanye is not only as fraudulent as Drake, but is being given a pass to do so. So when people question why artists like Drake can skate by even though he doesn't write his own rhymes, we look no further than Kanye. He's a guy that's being propped as a great amongst greats (even in the MC sense) in spite of having rappers and we got posters co-signing it because they refuse to be consistent because

1) They dislike Drake

2) They love Kanye

Kanye >>>> Drake, but a spade is a spade.

And to the point of "we don't put Kanye in GOAT conversation", that's a double standard. Many didn't look at Drake in that light either, but because Drake claimed he was the greatest and he had other respected MC's and producers seeing him in that light, it's a crime because he has writers.

Bruh. Surely you understand there's going to be a difference in perception when:
artist a) enters the game as a producer and we knew on album #1 that he had writers.
artist b) doesn't produce, find out about writers on album #4

You get that right?

The only difference here is semantics. And when Kanye was turning poetry he'd supposedly written into songs, which made people feel that what he was spittin' came from him. Rhymefest appears in the credits, but until Rhymefest came out and said he wrote "Jesus Walks" and Kanye confirmed, it wasn't something that was known.

No body is checking for his solo work. He drops a tape once a year.

Kanye also produces so he gets a pass.

Drake is out here really pushing the idea that he is some lyrical beast/top tier writer.
:camby:

This is what I'm getting at. So Kanye isn't out here pushing the idea that he is some lyrical beast/top tier writer?

When Kanye speaks about himself he speaks about the complete package (producing, visuals, ideas).

Drake be talking about his straight up lyrics.

And even IF kanye was speaking about his lyrics, he’s also a producer so that makes up how little he writes.

Drake is NOT A PRODUCER, So he has virtually no excuses for not being more involved in the music process.

Breh, there's quotes from Kanye saying "Top 5 MC's you gotta rewind me", one of his verses is "the greatest rap verse of all time".

How does being a producer excuse him saying he's a Top 5 MC or him saying he's the greatest rap verse of all time?

The point is, if your gripe is that a rapper who has writer is bragging about being a GOAT MC, there should be NO excuses.

Kanye is in nobody top five when it comes to being a rapper. He is more respected for over being a musical guy. He gets a pass for writing because he wants the best song

Obviously, you skipped over Common and Fat Joe, both respected figures in Hip Hop (and Common is actually considered a great MC) have Kanye in their Top 5's as an MC not artist.

Cool! Kanye don't win songwriter of the year awards, and no songwriter hall of fame awards. So Im missing James point.

Isn't he the same dude that runs behind the other Isitrealie vulture "RnB" version of Drake named Bruno Mars. So him jumping out the window to defend Drake is no surprise.

Kanye is looked at more as a musical genius than an elite mc.
