Cause you are admitting what you created is a derivative work based off an existing work. Now if you don't plan on crediting the owner of the work who directly inspired your work that's fine. People get away with it all the time cause that's normally hard to prove unless your a dummy like Robin Thicke giving interviews stating the exact artist and song you used.
They said they were inspired by the record. The estate has to prove which part of blurred lines takes directly from got to give it up. You cannot even prove it. The judge gave a BS verdict and is trying to block an appeal knowing it BS. Show me undisputed evidence.

Maybe he didn't want to get into it about notes and stuff because the lawyer was setting up a trap. Not like he was asking these questions just for the hell of it, they were lead up questions to something else. Pharrell avoided answering questions about notes/structure of blurred lines and simiarities with got to give it up, so he just answered I'm not comfortable.

The only nikka in the thread who gets it  Anybody remember "What is the meaning of is?" :russ:

this is the thing though... there is absolutely NOTHING legally wrong with making derivative works. Thats why this case was a shocker, not because it was ever in doubt that marvin gaye was the inspiration behind this record... the shocker was that they won a case without any legal violation of anything... its still amazing hope the precedent doesnt stick

They're going to appeal so it isn't over. The judge tried to block the block the appeal because it was a shady ruling. Like you and others, no one can actually point out anything b/w both records to prove an infringement.

they copped to mimicking the song though. Thats the point

I can't see a jury just ignoring that...especially after Robin and Pharrell's testimonies...

the bluntness and disrespect of this reply :laff:
I respect Marv, but I doubt he was really making music outside of singing. Just like James Brown. JB couldn't read music like that, but I bet he got production credits too.
