Eh, even tho the dude was broke he was spending his time grinding and building businesses. It’d be one thing if he was bumming it up on the couch, but he was pursuing something and her help got him there.
That said, I see where OP’s coming from. As a man I would NEVER want to put a woman in a position where she’s covering my rent, transportation, etc. I don’t need to be a finished product to date someone, but at the same time I feel like a dude’s life should be together on a certain level before trying to get a woman involved. Situations like this are rare, if I had a daughter I def wouldn’t advise her to date someone in this situation.
