Certain parts I was like :scusthov: other parts I was like :ehh:

I used to drive all over my city on a moped so some of the parts made me laugh like when he was like "I'm goin 38 shut the hell up"

Used to get too high and ride my moped and feel like im going 50 only to turn my head back to see a line of traffic behind me that i'm holding up then look at my speedometer and see im going 20 mph and should prolly gas it more :heh:

You ain't gonna have a choice breh :umad:

I only listened once . . I literally don't wanna listen to this again . . from a songwriting and production perspective this song is too good. shyt is on another level, dude seamlessly meshed the experience of 3 songs together. The production is funk influenced (didn't I tell you muthaphukkas that funk stock is going up . . King Kuntha, the Snoop album, Uptown Funk)

He literally opens the song by FORCING the listener into subconscious recognition via familiarity . . sounds exactly like Thrift Shop. BANG! right off the bat the song is being recognized by the same portions of the brain that were already exposed to Thrift Shop

The production is a step up on the success of Uptown Funk

He grabs the lead singer from a band with a strong following . . immediately leveraging on their fan base

He enlists hip-hop legends . . earning an embedded co-sign and also denoting a respect for hip-hop culture. Separating himself from the average white rapper. Has Eminem done this?

I don't want to hear this again because of how next level the songwriting is

This is better than the Eminem "Bezerk">"We Made You">"Just Lose It">"We Made You"> "Without Me">"Real Slim Shady">"Hi, My Name Is" line of singes . . songwriting levels exceeded

Now somebody find what label this guy's really signed to. Is it Warner or Universal?

You're trying too hard

I fully agree with you as far as the thought process and strategy behind this... I even agree with you as far as the musicianship behind this...

BUT the ultimate problem is its just not that good... not even talking from a hip hop elitist perspective...

Its funny, but not funny enough to catch attention the way thrift shop does...

Its got the funk, but the groove is just not strong enough, take out the hook, the trappings, the lyrics just let the groove rock, compare the groove to the uptown funk... compare the groove to the i cant feel my face... its not a strong enough funk groove...

Its got like three choruses but none are super strong, the transitions between the main chorus and the 'verses' are too abrupt...

Basically its thrift shop but not as funny, its like raise the roof change ups but not as well executed and its straight jacking uptown funk without being as groovy...

i mean its literally jacking a song that same out six months ago called 'Uptown Funk' and naming itself 'Downtown'

its a lot of good pop music ideas poorly executed...

But you know what I want to OGs to get a strong check so I hope it somehow catches on....

I will say I hardly listen to the radio except on my 20 minute drive into work, to lunch, and home, and I heard this shyt 3 times yesterday... on the first day it dropped... they are putting a lot of money into this.

somewhere between a pair of D cup tiddies
:snoop: at Macklemore showing more respect to the architects than all the other current rappers.
This.

If a 20 something rock fan can know and respect Led Zepplin, a 20 something rap fan can know and respect Melle Mel or Caz. They STARTED the shyt!
Macklemore is 30 something breh, if you were referring to him.

Why'd this cornball have to blow up instead of Blue Scholars or Common Market
Think about that one. As dope as both are, with the exception of Kendrick no "real hip-hop" is blowing up anytime soon. Especially them.

:mjlol:

And yeah, hate it or whatever, this is well produced. Ryan Lewis is talented as shyt. Just wish Macklemore would go back to rappin like and about things from 8-10 years ago.

The shyt is a clusterfukk, like most of his music but that's why it works. Still :ld: but effective.

I was literally trying not to like the song but felt like a hater seeing Caz riding around on a moped :mjcry:

That shyt is like a fail safe

I appreciate Cacklemoore's hustle and talent to some extent if only for being able to cover so many bases with his sound even though it's not really good.

Like my first thought was, like you said "this is uptown funk for rap music"....that shyt was DELIBERATE

He wasn't sitting around like oh it would be dope to get this guy/that guy...he or somebody on his team applied some ill niche marketing techniques and found a way to keep dude from being a fluke commercially. Old school Hip Hop and 80's rock/ Freddy mercury mash up...shyts genius.

I just wish more (better) artists would go the same route and pay respects to the pioneers...stop letting this muthafukka get in on everything first. Somebody should make a save the whales song or something before he snatches that up too.

Yep. This music is fun. It's hip hop. I'll take it any day over that soulless, autotuned, Fruity Loops trap music garbage. Even if it's Macklemore.

Agreed 100%. I like the idea, but the song itself isn't strong enough to hold it's own. Without the video I don't think it sticks, so they were smart to put in work into the video like they did. Makes it have that SNL music video type of appeal.
