DC is a cool city..plenty of things to do, many different cultures, great nightlife BUT there are some serious cons. I think the traffic and cost of living is being understated. DC doesn't just have bad traffic. It has THE worst traffic in the nation (there are surveys proving this). I've only been through DC once and didn't get stuck in traffic. And that was at 3AM so that shouldn't count. Plus the city layout is confusing as hell. Also the cost of living is high as fukk. Yes you will make more money in DC but from what I see, it doesn't equal out to those high ass housing prices. I would like to live within an hour of DC, but I would not want to live in DC. Also, like others have pointed out, its gay people everywhere.
Traffic only bad during rush hour, if you know where you're going then traffic ain't shyt.
Plus DC is pretty easy to drive in if you know your North, South, East, and West. The layout is easy as shyt really because of how literal it is. If you want to go from Columbia Heights to the Mall then you need to travel South and East. You can travel South on 14th, then East(left) on U st, then an additional right(south) on 7th and keep straight until you get to the Mall. If you want to get from the Big Chair in Anacostia to Friendship Heights you need to go in the directions of North and West. So you can take MLK straight to I-395 and take the Maine Ave exit and go straight to the Mall through the roundabout to Rock Creek Parkway, take the Wisconsin Ave exit make your left(north) and keep straight. Mind you, those are easy directions so those places can have a little more traffic but once you got the idea of the NSEW thing the only thing to know is what is or isn't a dead end or one way. Driving in DC gave me a great sense of direction, my gps stopped working in Manhattan and I still found my uncle's old neighborhood in Queens using the same ideas I learned driving in DC.

especially NYC

There is an economics department.
in terms of the people you're around it don't even feel like you're in DC anymore.
there breh. I'm an OT and all I hangs with are born and bred DC natives. I find the transients corny and too busy trying to live life around here on some black Hollywood shyt. I laugh at folks who act scared of DC and won't go north of Mt. Vernon square and shyt. Use to hang in Adams Morgan a lot until I started realizing that shyt was just a hipster version of M St. DC is a dope ass city once you get past all the cleaned up, fancy parts. I'd love to move back here and if I do, staying far away from Fairfax county. Moving my ass either in the city or Maryland
when they ask if I want mumbo sauce and I say "nah but drown em in hot sauce and ketchup"
