the thing about it is, this is the new gen, so its all about trying to move the tech forward.

those usb type c/thunderbolt 3 ports are godly IF and only IF you are willing to get into that ecosystem

if you have a desk setup with those new LG (and I'm sure some other) monitors then you are really gonna be taking advantage of that new I/O

being able to daisy chain and draw power from the monitors and also utilizing the usb-a ports on the monitor would be the ideal situation.

i'm still rocking this late 2011 mbp 13 inch. i added ram and threw a 1tb ssd in like a year ago, and I'm still good.

doesnt come out the box with the current iPhone, and power blocks have not been updated to support them.

From a product perspective you have to make changes across the board to show you are serious about your decision to do something. Like I said, apples decisions show that you have a bunch of different departments that dont work together.

That could fly at other companies but apples who existence is based on creating unified user experiences in one ecosystem.
SMFH @ you being "shocked" at Apple nickle and diming customers. Their famous "$29" accessory upcharge for basic ass shyt has been around since Jobs was still alive. So this isn't all on Cook. By next year the iPhone will have a lightning to usb 3.1 type c port included, but it's too early. They haven't sold enough macbooks to justify it just yet.

I type this angry as my mom decided to grab a 2016 model because she felt like she was getting an inferior laptop from "2015" if she didn't. Now I am on Amazon/Newegg looking for a 3.1 HUB, 3.1 Flash Drive and a HDMI to USB 3.1 cable.

Like I said ease the transition leave in a usb 3 port.
LIke seriously HOW THE fukk THEIR NEW IPHONE 7 CAN'T CONNECT TO THEIR NEW MACBOOKS without a dongle?! that is pure crap and a money grab on their part.

Nah they not gonna do that. Force the industry forward. Just like axing the optical drives. Again this is gen 1. Wait til gen 2 when accessories will be everywhere.

You don't need a dongle. Get a usbc to lightning cable. I know it's not the cheapest thing but before long it'll be the norm

nikka it's stupid.
If your new phone that is not even 4 months old can't come be plugged on the next computer thats bullshyt.
It's a fukking cash grab. It's not the same shyt as optical drives.
What they did right there was a huge dikk move only for money.
The 2015 Macbook Pro is supreme fukk the 2016 fukking nerfed out and with shyt battery, and a touch bar for idiots with ADHD

I already said wait for gen 2. I agree the 2015 is a better overall value for now. But it won't be next year. But most Apple stuff is typically overpriced.

See, but I'm not talking about gen 2 I'm talking about now. Plus its going to be a while until they do another refresh, and that's just a prediction.
People including me predicted this refresh was going to be crazy and it has been shyt.

it'll have a silent refresh yearly like it normally does. cpu upgrade/gpu upgrade/ddr4 upgrade etc. Again that year gives all those accessory makers time to come up with some nice things, thus driving price down. Having legacy ports would've slowed down progress, simple as that.

the refresh is pretty crazy though. thinner, lighter, screen gets crazy bright, better more accurate colors, huge trackpad, insane ssd speed (basically maxes out blackmagic). the keyboard is subjective but imo it's better than the rmb keyboard. I understand the touchbar is love/hate but it really depends on developers and what they're able to do with it. It's pretty nice in Final Cut though. Safari too.

One thing i don't like is that they omitted edgpu support even though tb3 is a universal standard. I see this changing in the future but being able to hook up an external enclosure like the razer core or akitio and use desktop gpu cards would've been pretty sweet.

I respect how versatile USB-C is and can tolerate this easily.

The removal of the headphone jack on the iPhone is absurd. I still haven't found a reason to update from my iPhone 6.

Apple are looking tired out here :snoop:
They simply should've just added the USB C ports rather than remove all the current ports forcing this dongle shyt. It's just a clusterfukk. If they want to prepare people for the future of their product u don't remove all the current options. Why the fukk should I need to buy cables and dongles to connect two CURRENT GEN items by the same company?

That's not how you move the needle though. Still having legacy ports means customers still buying old USB 2/3 connection stuff. They learned by doing that on older mb having legacy ports with tb 1/2. Because Apple is who they are they know going all usbc means every accessory maker in the world gotta start churning out accessories. It's why gen 2 it'll be better. By then they'll be loads of cheaper USB c peripherals. It sucks now but it'll get better faster because of this.

Nah. Then do that for the 2nd Gen version. Let people understand ahead of time that ur moving in this direction. They've been keeping the old ports and adding new ports for mad generations and doing just fine. Stop making excuses for their obvious money grabbing behavior. Charge more money and remove options. Where they do that at? U need fukking 3 extensions to use displayport.

Every business is out to make money.

The 2nd gen will most likely have the same outside hardware so they're not gonna add ports they didn't have on gen 1.

DisplayPort again is older tech. Usbc tb3 will be the norm soon. 1 port that can do most everything. Just like the lg usbc monitors released you'll start seeing many more coming. Which will lower prices.

Son. nikkas ain't tryna upgrade their perfectly good and functional hardware just because Apple decides they wanna pull a dikk move. People spend thousands of bucks on their gear and who the fukk wants to upgrade all of their peripherals just because.
