Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
Just something I wanted to point oots:

Was at Costco here in Seattle and at the exit of the warehouse, a family of 5 was pan-handling (husband, wife, teenage daughter, gradeschool daughter and what seems to be an infant son).

I'm like; is this the impression and life-long example you want to leave for your familia? To beg til their death?

The thing is; the parents and the daughter look like well able-bodied citizens and can do really well for themselves if they just took their heads out of their entitled and sedentary asses (well, asking for change seems to have some effort to it as you gotta transition from busy street corner to high-traffic stop sign crosswalk or freeway ramp exit with the light marker for HOV commuters).

I used to be a very compassionate person, but after my mom died, it made me realize that these transients, squatters, homeless pan-handlers are so fortunate to have all their life and limb and still want to pit themselves in that position (of course, that's just scratching the superficial surface as we don't know their life's dilemmas and circumstances that led them to their existing woes)... but my mom would have gave everything to be alive and well and one day see grandchildren.

This is why i give ZERO fukks to these people migrating to my city en fukkin masse!!! It's just so baffling and unfathomable how many of these types have landed in Seattle in the past 2-3 years and their fukkin' tents are everywhere!!! (There's ton to touch on regarding the worst mayor the city has ever encountered, but that's another discussion in itself).

Stop enabling...

Start eradicating.

Then can our free lands be amazing.

To be an uplifting and productive society is what every woman child and man ought to be craving.

Anywho, back to the subject at hand.

I once had nearly 30 k saved up (half cash half in savings).

Damn, it was all good just 2 years ago.

Starting from scratch is a humbling experience for sure... but knowing I could have invested that money and did big thangs with it is certainly something you have to take the good with the bad and try to ensure that you take the right path/make correct steps in life and not derail a good thing in life due to greed and having an idealistic mindset of invincibility.

The only thing that is certain is death and tomorrow is never promised. Do good while you're 6 feet above ground and the cosmos will reward you handsomely.

Word to all 4 one... cuz I swear.

nobody growing up taught me about finances.

Now im in a much better place. But I wish I'd have started early in my 20s.
Same situation for me. Literally everyone in my family, immediate and extended knows nothing about finance and has never invested.

I was 29 years old when I read an article about Visa's IPO that got me interested in finance. I went back to school and got an Accounting degree and I'm in a much better place now. I think back about all the things I missed out on. I'd be sitting real good if I had started my Roth IRA when I was young!

This has been made quite a few times.
I daresay the majority of these cases are poor financial habits/financial mismanagement, and the rest are due to circumstance.
Think of how many Americans are taking out exorbitant mortgages, buying cars with monthly payments they can barely make, bridging from paycheck to paycheck using credit cards, and all those who don't have any person retirement accounts hoping that Social Security and their children will keep them afloat once they "retire."
People are in bad shape.
Even worse for those who were born into poverty, abusive situations, or with special conditions/medical issues/parents or siblings with medical issues, who were never given the chance to escape the cycle fully.
I read a while back that the vast majority of people caring for a loved one with health issues are impoverished here in the US.

Really the only two people I know who are truly good with the little bit of money they make are hardcore hustlers, younger women who have been near-homeless before with irresponsible parents, and are trying to avoid that fate in the future.
One of them has a drug problem, and even then is still saving a huge chunk of money from both of her jobs. The other works 2 jobs while in school full-time, paid for her car in full, ad refuses to get a credit card or take out any loans.
Those are incredibly rare people, especially in the Black community.
I know I try to put the majority of my money away in either savings accounts or in investments, but I don't make much, so its difficult to do.

I avoided getting a CC for the longest.
