But would you rather move lower tier players or let Gordon walk for nothing? In the playoffs that rotation shrinks to 8 or 9 players anyway, and I think Denver is confident in their ability to replenish talent on cheap contracts through the draft where they’re excellent and finding and developing talent

That still doesn't change the premise of the point in that their top 4 players are going to come with a luxury price tag that the owner may second thoughts about paying when the time is due.

They’re just kicking the can down the road. Jokic is locked in for 2 more years. Murray locked in until 2025. I think MPJ got two more years when you factor in the qualifying offer. By then the cap probably goes up a decent amount. And if not then these guys are going to be good trade material.

Jokic is supermax eligible after this season and you do not let MPJ hit RFA as a team literally could tailor the contract (poison pill) to ensure that Denver won't be able to match it. They weren't at risk of losing Gordon, so MPJ should have been the first priority.

Nuggets weren’t gonna have free agency flexibility no matter what. They’re gonna give MPJ the max, then they’ll be a luxury tax team no matter what. I’m not tryna save Stan kroenke a few dollars, so I’m happy with this. Plus, now he becomes a Andrew Wiggins type contract, where as soon as a star becomes available, nuggets can offer AG plus a bunch of picks and young guys, and the money will work.

This deal doesn’t happen if kroenke wasn’t gonna pay the tax. If he was gonna get cheap, it would be letting Gordon walk

Every owner says that they are willing to pay the luxury tax until the bill comes in.
He paid it back in the melo years :yeshrug:

All I know is I’m done getting happy about getting players for less than they’re worth for awhile. Doesn’t benefit the teams ability to add a player at all and I’d rather these dudes get paid than see Stan kroenke keep his sock money

No way should the players leave any money on the table. If a team or owner is really concerned with winning a championship, then they'll bite the bullet and pay whatever luxury tax amount it is. Case in point, the Lakers paying $200 million this season just so they can hopefully win the championship lol.

I don't see Denver getting in the luxury tax, a team is gonna pay MPJ and he's gonna walk.
he's not getting paid as a "3rd option" he is getting paid cause he is far and away the best defender on their team. SOMEBODY has to be able to guard wings on that team. Who else are they going to get to do it ? Murray :mjlol:. Maga Porter Jr :mjlol:.

What is a "3rd' of "4th" option anyway ?
:comeon:
