Jokic is supermax eligible after this season and you do not let MPJ hit RFA as a team literally could tailor the contract (poison pill) to ensure that Denver won't be able to match it. They weren't at risk of losing Gordon, so MPJ should have been the first priority.

Nuggets weren’t gonna have free agency flexibility no matter what. They’re gonna give MPJ the max, then they’ll be a luxury tax team no matter what. I’m not tryna save Stan kroenke a few dollars, so I’m happy with this. Plus, now he becomes a Andrew Wiggins type contract, where as soon as a star becomes available, nuggets can offer AG plus a bunch of picks and young guys, and the money will work.

This deal doesn’t happen if kroenke wasn’t gonna pay the tax. If he was gonna get cheap, it would be letting Gordon walk

All I know is I’m done getting happy about getting players for less than they’re worth for awhile. Doesn’t benefit the teams ability to add a player at all and I’d rather these dudes get paid than see Stan kroenke keep his sock money

No way should the players leave any money on the table. If a team or owner is really concerned with winning a championship, then they'll bite the bullet and pay whatever luxury tax amount it is. Case in point, the Lakers paying $200 million this season just so they can hopefully win the championship lol.
