Yup, said this years ago.

That will shut that shyt down quick.

Give ALL teams one lottery ball each and see how quick that tanking shyt stops. Even if you give non playoff teams 2 lottery balls, and the playoff teams 1 lottery ball, that still will draw fukkery.

Imagine the NBA champs this year getting the #1 pick.

GMs would be so fukkin furious

this season, the tanking problem has gotten more egregious than ever. there's like 1/3 of the league currently tanking.

they might have to start giving ALL the non-playoff teams equal odds to win the lottery to disincentivize this bullshyt.

and we are now at the point where if u even consider buying tickets to a game in march/april, you are basically throwing money out the window cuz you never know who they will put on the phony "injury report".

the NFL has it where the worst team gets the #1 pick, but they aren't ever out there blatantly tanking.
In additon to what @Thavoiceofthevoiceless and @threattonature said you are talking 17 weekly games vs 82 games with 3 or 4 every week. Watching dudes stink it up every other day hits different.

As far as tanking goes, you have already lowered the worsts teams odds and added even more teams to the postseason and teams are still like :manny:. I am honestly not sure there is a realistic solution. I say cut the playoffs to 4 teams per conference, 1-8. Give the best non playoff teams the best picks. I know it will never happen though.

I want them to kill off that stupid play-in tournament.

say they put every lottery team in the lottery but give them all the same # of ping pong balls and extend the lottery to like the top 6 or 8 picks even, so that it's even more random.

clearly this shyt they have now isn't working at all.

this shyt was happening routinely in the 70's and 80's where the likes of the celtics and lakers kept having the top pick. like how the lakers have the #1 pick when they were competitve prior to magic's arrival?

then they got the #1 pick again for worthy despite already having won multiple rings in the previous 3 or 4 seasons.

same goes for the celtics. they got a top pick to grab mchale despite them having bird and already being very good. it's ridiculous.

Which team is tanking that you think should be trying their hardest to win 30 games?

If I’m a Philly fan I’d much rather tank a lost season than try to maybe get the 10 seed in the play in then lose your pick to OKC

If they ended the season April 1, it would’ve been better for everyone involved. I read somewhere that Jerami Grant hasn’t played an April game this decade. That’s a fukking joke, if they want to keep things at 82 games they need new strategies like banning teams from a top 4 pick back to back years. But the first common sense solution should be to cut these games.

this would NEVER happen cuz the players would have to take a pay cut. u think these networks who already paid tens of billions of dollars are gonna be cool with a shortened season? they are immediately gonna be asking for a refund, and then the NBA/owners/players are gonna be like :whoa:

LA got the Jazz’s 1979 1st round pick in a trade. They got Cleveland’s 1982 first round pick in a 1979 trade. I think 4 years in a row Cleveland traded their 1st round pick away so the league rewrote the rules on that so teams can’t screw themselves because of it.

I don't wanna hear it. Teams are doing what they've been doing. Last year nobody cared because it was for unknown French men.

In football it's harder to tank because you can't half ass it on the field. You'll get trucked. Also, the players are tryna get a check that NBA players mostly have in hand (and those teams do it to the detriment of their long term future sometimes. There's consequences to that pride shyt these fans want. Ask the Giants. Drew Lock means nothing to them, yet he cost them Cam Ward. The only difference is that the NFL draft is more of a crap shoot than the NBA).

If you're buying tickets to watch a wack ass team play basketball, it's more than likely gonna be cheap as hell, so unless you're a season ticket holder who paid for the bundle anyway, you're actually saving money.

Also it’s a bit ironic that when this thread was made OKC and Houston were the two tanking teams the basketball world was fed up with, now they’re the top two seeds in the West. You think their front offices regret tanking? :skip:

Why are people so bothered by tanking? If my team is trash and have no shot at seriously competing I’d rather tank, than to waste time trying to compete for the play in. That play in is for teams who are built and want to compete and win.

The NBA relies on star power more than a league like the NFL. If Chase, Jefferson, Barkley, or other stars are out for a game, people will still tune in and watch, AND pay for tickets.

Many buy NBA tickets to see the stars. When they are not in the lineup and it’s not known well ahead of time, fans become pissed ofc because of how much they spent on tickets and never know what to expect in terms of who is playing.
