Eh what? Transnational companies backing him? He has a deal with Apple, has some endorsement and is signed to Universal. Nas is signed to the same label and "backed" by Coca Cola too, why isn't he moving 3 million first week? Drake is doing first week what people like Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez do in total with what he labels as mixtapes. Just cause a Burger King intern tweets about his beef with Meek doesn't mean that they are backing him. Just like, Cole having a deal with Bally or Nike doesn't mean that he'll move a significant amount of units more than he would without them.
And Drakes last album sold 700k first week , which was the most anyone sold in 2013 after JT and Beyoncé. I hate how cats compare people to one of the biggest of all times and act like if you're not on the same level you are overrated and actually not that big.
Drake is one of the perhaps 10 biggest artists, no one has claimed that he is the Beatles of today. Even in hiphop we still have Eminem. In black music we have Beyoncé. Depending on how you measure success we can also add Rihanna. We have 1-2 country acts, 2-3 culture vultures and 2-3 pop stars who are all as huge or bigger. All have deals and except Taylor no one is close to touching Adele, they are all in Drakes region, probably with more deals and more media publicity.
