@The Dust King so you neg me and 'henny ain't beer' is the best you could come up wit:russ: that's sad son you KNOW what he ment
Bottom line is Nas signed his mind, body and soul (and prob a$$hole) over to Jay-Z and the 'EVIL Empire'

"Buncha other Evil Empires.....Def Jam being one of them" - Nas 2001

*signs to Def Jam* - Nas 2005 "my religion is the almighty dollar" - :ahh:

Nas is so full of shyt you could make a thread of him going back on his word over and over again

Nas has been pushing poison for years now he's rapping with fakkits pushing the agenda:dame:

He's a complete sellout all his real fans stopped fukking with him YEARS ago
Wouldn't be surprised if his ride had federal plates :whoo:

You guys keep mixing emotion and phrases that mean nothing...with business. No one said Nas "had to go to Jay-Z" for anything. You keep making this sound like a subservient relationship when literally nobody (outside of haters) would claim that's the case. It was a business. Jay-Z was the president and had heavy influence on a variety of decisions at the time...including budgets, marketing ideas, and artist acquisition. Securing an artist of Nas' caliber was important. Hell, Hov played a major role in signing The Roots to Def Jam and ensuring Game Theory became what it is...yet you're gonna tell me he had nothing to add to NAS signing to the label?

What could he add but yea that sounds good? Serious question.

...as the CEO and president of the label? Why wouldn't he be involved in terms talk, mapping out a vision, a general presentation, etc? Lets remember, this was a pretty big negotiation at the time. Columbia/Sony ended up co-financing the first album (HHID), which you rarely see in rap. Nas essentially got a buy-out, a new deal, a non-recoupable advance per album and separate budgets for each album. He won.

Ironically Nas' issues with Def Jam started AFTER Hov left. At the time, Hov was more than warm with Nas and supported him. Few years after he left Nas was battling with Def Jam execs, penning angry emails and shyt.

What are you guys talking about man. Def Jam is a business. It's run like any other corporation. The CEO/president reports to the board or chairman, in this case LA Reid. The CEO/president is the chief executive and runs the company, maximizing value and revenue. When things go well, he reports to the chairman. When things go bad, he reports to the chairman. This is business 101 stuff.

Nas is an artist. He was signed to Def Jam as an artist. He didn't have equity in the company, he wasn't signed with a co-management deal. He was signed as an artist. Meanwhile the CEO/president runs the label's daily operations and decisions. You know, like signing artists, approving budgets, working on marketing, etc. To say Jay-Z, the CEO/president, had nothing to do with any of this is pure ducktales that defies decades of corporate structure and history. If you want to get riled up over the "boss" word who fukking cares man. It's childish. The point is that Jay-Z was running Def Jam, and Nas signed to Def Jam. The only person who reported to LA Reid (the chairman) was Jay Z, the CEO/president. Because that's how corporations work, man.

Brehs here have spent too much time listening to Dame Dash and getting business terms mixed up. Worker, boss, whatever. fukk that. Nas was a prized free agent and signed to a label. As I said, if this is sports...Nas is the player, Hov is the GM, and LA Reid is the owner. There are no disses here or slights. Nas signed a great fukking deal. Hov lasted a couple years at Def Jam before bouncing and doing his own thing.

There's a reason why brehs going so hard to disprove everything you're saying and deny it all .. cuz deep down they know it looks weak AF. Jay was technically his boss, you and me agree on that. But these guys in here won't even though it's true :sas2:

Why are you guys in denial? How is Jay the president of a company but not a boss to any of the artists/employees? :mjlol:

"B-b-but LA Reid, LA Reid :damn:"

If LA Reid had died, guess who would've been the boss boss right then and there at that moment .. :sas1:

i know it hurts Nas stans so much that Hov been saving this dude for almost 20 years:wow:

1. out of nas own mouth he said was left for dead and forgotten. If Jay never disses Nas. These two would not even be linked like this.

2. the def jam deal self explanatory. Nas just was coming of his lowest selling album since Illmatic.

3. business minded. Once again out his own mouth “Thank God for Jay Z”. He pretty much praised Hov for showing rappers it’s more than rap

So get mad. Tell me stfu. Jay helped Nas career so much he probably pray to Jay Z every night:russ:

I get what you are saying in terms of how corporate structure typically works, but in this specific case, Nas and LA Reid have said that it didn't work that way. SO unless you have specific evidence to contradict what LA Reid and Nas have said...
