I don't agree with students fukking around on their phone in class.
I don't agree with students attacking teachers.
But here's where I break with most people, I don't think teachers should be taking phones.
A deck of cards, a comic book, some dice, a toy? Sure, take that.

A phone is different.
First off, as much bullshyt that goes on with phones, those phones have become the primary way students communicate with parents or can contact help quickly as needed; for example, if a mass shooting happens at the school.
These kids may also have bank account, credit or debit card information in their phones for themselves or their parents.
They have financial apps like Paypal, CashApp, etc.

Furthermore, more often than not, these kids have nude and sexually explicit pictures of themselves and other minors in that phone.
Even though I don't condone it, it's a fact of life. A lot of adults have nudes of themselves in their phones. I think that's a privacy issue.
Especially with all of the sick freak teachers out there.

Lastly, these phones are expensive and most likely, the parent purchased the phone.
When I was in school, the faculty used to jack the fukk out of us for our electronics.

I bought an nice set of headphones with my own money. After a "security sweep" I never saw my shyt again.
I couldn't even have my folks come get it because them mfs said they didn't have it.
You wouldn't take a student's motorcycle, car, or their house keys. I think the phone falls in that category.
If the student is fukking around on the phone in class, send them to the office and hit the parents up about it.

I’m Man I remember when a teacher could confiscate a device and a student not even consider going to blows with a teacher over it.
Exactly. I am dating myself :old: But when the teacher confiscated my Walkman it never occurred to me to attempt the fight the damn teacher. I just took my L and got it after school

Being a teacher is a job. I’m not engaging with unruly people regardless of their age, teachers are not cops. If a kid acts out I’ll straight up ignore them and inform the parents. If they don’t care why should I? Tough shyt.

I worked in hs for 5+ years various roles. These schools and districts DONT listen to adults. Even if you are in the right. Back in the day and im almost 40 (:old:) If we took out any phone or headphones it was immediately confiscated and we were sent to ISS (In school suspension room). Not surprised and this also happens in Elementary way more they show. Those kids may be little (yes they have cell phones) they attacking teachers too.

Sorry breh it ain’t the 90s anymore.

In a mass shooting, the child’s priority should be to evade the attackers, not to call your mom.

Have a passcode on your phone

Insurance. Also most phones have a feature that can track its whereabouts.

Worse comes to worst, call the police.

Weak comparison.

A motorcycle and car can’t fit into one’s pockets and house keys aren’t anywhere near being as disruptive and distracting as a phone.

They've found ways to incorporate technology using iPads and computers in many schools. Maybe they can with phones?

All I know is that I'm glad I left school before phones completely took over bc I would have failed the fukk out playing around :dead:

I really don't see the issue with taking a phone away for the class period but giving it back afterwards. Now the school trying to hold on to it and charge a fee is a problem.

These badass kids with no home training and parenting is also a problem.

Nobody was fighting teachers when I was in school smh. Even the "bad" kids never did this shyt

You just wanna argue.
You wanna nitpick what kids bring to school in 2023? I'm an adult, breh. :pachaha:
Why don't your "Hello, fellow kids" ass tell us what kids take to school?

kick the kid out of the class..

when i use to draw during 7th grade science class my teacher kicked me out and i sat outside the classroom door until the period ended.

escalate to detention if need be.

You can’t kick a kid out of class for that. It’s not a viable solution at the moment. You would probably have to get a state bill passed to do something like that

Send a letter/email to all parents and inform them of the mobile device policy and consequences of breaking it. Whether its surrendering it during class or zero tolerance ejection/suspension from class. Get all that nobody taking my babys phone sh!t out the window expeditiously.

i've already addressed this in the thread. laws change everyday. there's literally parents paying millions of dollars to try to influence courts/lawmakers to change education related issues like teaching about minorities issues, diversity enrollment considerations in higher education, etc.... and you all in here are like "no we could never block a cell phone signal for high schoolers, impossible! just suspend the kids "
and then you wonder why the other sides' kids is winning :francis:

WAKE UP!
Stop being obtuse. Blocking cell phone signals is a no go. The rest of your response is word salad. Either kids put their phones in blocking sleeves or cell phone detectors in the entrances.
