that's not true .. at 45 .. (I'm 43) with the diverse work that I've done I would have no problem getting hired for that.. after all they need an engineer to run the operations and maintain the automation equipment since the programs and systems are well beyond the new hire or "factory" worker skill and education level.

Yes. The one exception is if you have a set of very unique skills that come with experience.

If you're just an average engineer at 45, companies will look for ways to avoid paying you $150K. That could include hiring younger, hiring overseas, automation, etc.

Like I said, this mainly applies to corporate engineering.

This is what i hate about a lot of young black kids these days. Why the fukk do you clowns fear math?:what:
Just walk into that class and look around at the clowns in there. and say to yourself "All these f@ggots cant be better than me. If they can do it so can I"

That's what got me through Calculus I, Calculus II and Differential equations and Physics when i was in school for engineering. :manny:
I'm about to take Differential Equations this semester are there any particular topics you remember that I might need to pay special attention too

One caveat in regards to EE.

Last year I think it was one of the few engineering disciplines for 2016 to have projected 0% job growth. Its stagnating. I mean if its something you really love, I would use the current stagnation maybe to pursue a masters in it and see if the market picks back up. As far as job opportunities though, its not as in demand as it once was from my understanding.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Especially those who have recently entered the job market. Give your experience.

Laplace transforms.

Same here. Having some arrogance and pride in yourself will take you a long way.

I've been saying - Most people could do these "complex" maths if they knew how to study correctly. You don't have to be a super genius and the problem is that people have a defeatist mentality from the get go and defeat themselves before even trying.

Trust me, I've met a lot of "dumb" people in engineering.

Engineering isn't how smart you are, its how hard working you are. Its almost like a hazing ceremony to be honest.

Man it's been so long since i been out of school (almost 14 years now) i dont remember that shi1.

THe one problem i remember being annoying as fukk in differential equation was the problem when the water is pouring into the container at one rate and then pouring out at another rate and you had to calculate at point in time X how much water was in the container. I dont even remember the name of the fukkin method to use nor the formula
That shyt was so frustrating let's just say it drove me back to drinking :russ:

I don't think there is anything specific in those math classes that you need to remember for future work. But that math helps you in other Science and Engineering courses... and overall just builds up your intuition in whatever area of study you've chosen. Just learn as much as you can, so that the basics are second nature to you, and you can build that intuition and be able to solve things on your feet.

A lot of EE jobs are being sent overseas, especially in microelectronics.

i believe you are talking about the wronskian function of a first or second order

unless you are going into research or teaching as a profession little matters in practical applications

true, anything you need to know, you'll learn on the job. Some places will ask some basic stuff in an interview, but likely never use it on the job. I had an interview for a product engineering job once, and the interviewer drew a circuit on the board with diodes and was asking for the voltage at different nodes. I knew a guy working there as a product engineer that did none of that stuff.

I remember that water problem too :russ:

Can't remember if it was first or second order though :jbhmm:

Damn I just realized I took diff eq 17 years ago :bryan:

These young lads got all their google and other tools to use to learn. We had to rely on brains and cheatsheets and shyt

They don't even know. If there's some concept they didn't understand in math/engineering/physics they can just hit up youtube.

I had to go talk to a shytty professor that barely spoke english :mjcry:. Since that usually didn't work I had to do the same problem over and over again until my answer matched up with answers in the back of the book :mjcry:
