Are most US cities actually suburban?

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Hell naw. Most people don't want to raise a family in apartment buildings or a rowhouse with someone right next to them with no space.

There are many communities in NYC that do not have row homes or buildings.

Philly and Baltimore actually have a higher percentage of row homes than NYC.

NYC has one of the the most diverse architectures in America.

There are parts of Staten Island for example that could be mistaken for the south.

A lot of Queens is urban in that it's very dense/walkable, but still has suburban traits like catering to car owners (driveways in front of all the rowhouses). The only parts of Queens I would say are purely urban layout wise are LIC and Ridgewood.

Even South Jamaica is mostly detached houses with driveways and yards

I would say a big portion of Queens have neighborhood where cars make sense.

College Point Queens for example is so far from everything.

Rosedale also.

Those neighborhoods don't even have subways, so of course. But it's interesting that the new construction in places like Elmhurst and Corona caters to car owners, considering the great public transit access

One of my friends works for the MTA depot on college point and commutes from East Flatbush.

Her commute is a nightmare.

She takes the express bus from college point to midtown and takes the B/Q to church Ave and the B35 home.

Even if she skipped the city she would need to take a bus to Flushing for the 7 and transfer to the G then transfer to the A and then transfer to the B46.

Baltimore and Philly are the only cities that are Majority rowhouses. DC, NYC, Boston, Pittsburgh..etc have the highest percentages after that.

Another thing about Northeast cities that I don’t see much of.

Even in the burbs you got mini cities

Cambridge, MA
Yonkers, NY
Newark, NJ
Jersey City, NJ.

Funny enough all residents in these particular places will tell you they aren’t suburban people.

I use to think NYC lacked trees until I did visit Baltimore. I’m always in Philly so I already know about them.

For some reason the blocks in Baltimore feel very exposed but I couldn’t quite understand why.

The city has recently acknowledged that. I never really paid it any attention until recently.

Compton and Gary are technically suburbs too

I'm also don't get the idea that suburban=lower crime/nicer place to live

There are plenty of terrible suburban neighborhoods in New York and plenty of really upscale urban ones, and it was like that even before the hypergentrification of NYC
