At one Point DMX was considered better than Hov

i know for sure that the infamous is better than reasonable doubt but not hell on earth though. in my opinion

honestly at the time i was a little bit disappointed in hell on earth because i expected it to be the same quality as the infamous. and houdini p's lyrics weren't as sharp nor were hav's beats as crisp as the album prior. it took a while to grow on me, it was a lot darker & murkier. the joint that hit me hard though was get dealt with. goddamn thats one of the hardest joints ever.. oh and still shinin' definitely

I think the general consensus on HOE is that Prodigy got better lyrically. It’s the album where he started dropping longer blackout verses. Nighttime Vultures. Hell On Earth second verse. Apostles Warning.
As for Hav, he left the style from the Infamous behind, and crafted an even darker style without the assistance of Q Tip. The result was perhaps the best produced album in hip hop history. The Infamous is up there as well. Overall, I’m with you though. The Infamous was better. It’s a perfect album. Lightning in a bottle. A bottle of E&J. :prodigylol:

you're right about that consensus. me and my cousin would argue constantly about which p was better... infamous p or hell on earth p and for the life of me i couldn't understand how he preferred the latter, production too. i prefer the q-tip assisted beats personally

now i will say this, murda muzik p was better than hell on earth p and so was hav's production. but you're right, the infamous is a perfect album. i personally think its better than illmatic and knew it upon the first listen. as soon as party over faded out i knew i had heard one of the greatest albums of all time

It was a great move. I agree. From a business perspective. I didn't get paid off of it so I'm more about the quality of the music more so than what it did for his career but I never said it was a bad business decision.

the song is a hood classic and mainstream classic, that if played in any atmosphere will be recited by everybody.

DMX's album sold 5mil. Nobody was on that level in rap at the time. And let's not forget he released another album in 98 that sold crazy well too. Then he came back the next year and dropped an even bigger album.

It makes sense too. He had the streets, he had white rap fans. But he also had white kids who may not have even fukked with rap but liked his look and aesthetic. When you think about the late 90s you gotta think about nu metal, Marilyn Manson, and all that edgy shyt. DMX was right up those kids' alleys lol.
