A lot of what you said isn't wrong, but Coast'in sounds like a typical college student, not some high end brand whore.

Any mall or shopping area will have most of the things you need. But it is nice to visit spots like Valley Fair, Stoneridge, and Stonestown Galleria.

I don't know about most of you guys, but when I was in school, fashion had to take a back seat to more important financial matters. Money went to learning about new things and places, not Polo gear.

And I'm laughing at anyone who's scared to go to Southland.
Yes, all those things happened. Not downplaying murder, but those were not random acts of violence. I've been going to that mall since I was a child, never seen anything happen to an innocent person. I will go there by myself and have no fear whatsoever.

im still SMH @ the fact that anyone would recommend SOUTHLAND MALL... if dude is in the berkeley area, he can take bart into downtown SF and be at the powell station in 20 minutes and have access to literally EVERY store in southland aside from garbage ass kohls/sears/jcpenney. and he'll get there faster without getting on a bus after to go to that mall
gap, old navy, footlocker, champs, niketown, adidas, hollister, guess etc etc
not to mention better food options, better scenery, better btches, better everything.

money isnt an issue at union square/westfield sf.. u have teens shopping at oldnavy and h&m right next to rich ppl shopping at barneys and neiman marcus.

Maybe it's because I grew up in this area but I think it's safe :yeshrug:

As long as he catches the bus and don't walk off far then he'll be good.

I think cats are overstating it a bit too. I've had more issues with frat boys in SF than I have with nikkas in the east bay. Most of them is cool and live by the don't start none won't be none creed. I'm not saying that ain't some wild ones running round, but they ain't running up with guns on everybody. if dudes just nod and be chill won't shyt happen to them

fukk those scary ass lying cacs on that site I just read the Fruitvale BART page

"As much as I find bart an easy transportation, I hate this bart station. It's one of the most dangerous places I've been to. For instance, when I'm about to get picked up and my ride isn't here yet, I don't leave the bart station (where the actual bart is) because outside of the Bart station is scary to wait for."

Yeah so scary smh...

The hollister store has a decent selection but Im not going to lie youre right about the rest but its not bad for an outlet mall ill shop at a flabby outlet store as long as the discounts aren't flabby.

so ur going to ignore all the STABBINGS AND SHOOTINGS that happen at that mall and focus only on the yelp reviews... :youngsabo:

theres a reason people are leaving shtty reviews.. and its because people go in there n get shanked n stabbed. when i was in h.s i went in there once to buy some jeans n there was this huge brawl outside the champs store near macys.. bunch of ignorant mexican dudes brawling over who knows what..
u wont see that sht at stoneridge. and thus southland <<<<<

Smh @ stay away from Oakland. Yep, with that mentality, please don't come to Oakland :aicmon:

Oakland is by far the cultural/artistic hub of the bay at this moment. Berkeley used to be that in the 80's/early 90's but it's gotten tame and whitewashed. And SF has been gentrified with new money/tech-sters beyond recognition

No Black or Spanish chicks? I guess from reading a few other articles and the post in this thread downtown Oakland is alright. California BBQ :wtf: this concept sounds foreign to me (it's probably just the naive southerner in me)

Thanks breh! I've been wanting to get out of the rural south since forever. I heard Richmond is a bad area. Is that area in Richmond an exception to the rule? I might just brave it cause I need that cut. I guess it's the BART and cable cars for me. I'm gon' miss my car though :to: Liberal Berkeley chick :ohhh:

Don't go to Everett's in downtown, you gotta hit the hole in the wall locations (theres one on university) they make real BBQ, the one downtown is watered down to white folks taste, it's terrible

You trippin bruh haywards a nice spot and san leandro is too once you get away from the oakland border. Best place to shop in east bay though is great mall in concord.

:what:

1) there is no great mall in concord, great mall is in militias and the mall in concord (forgot its name) sucks
2) best east bay shopping is in walnut creek (a bit more high end) or pleasanton for mainstream, if you're looking for shoes exclusively, then southland, bay fair, and hilltop are fine

3) San Jose is just ok IMO for partying, the police out there are haters for sure, SF has the coolest po po IMO, those dudes used to let us do whatever as long as nothing was getting fukked up. SF has the a good mix of nightlife, from big money, cocaine laced spots like to red room, to strip clubs, to regular hip hop joints. Oakland has a good bar/lounge scene but it's hit or miss. San Jose used to have the good Sunday night parties at agenda (this was like 4-5 yrs ago tho...haven't live in the bay since 08). The one thing I hate about the bay is it isn't really a place where people go out during the week, you can get friends and go to a bar, but don't expect to have fun with a lot of other ppl unless you're in SF.

4) go to taco Tuesday's at nicks in SF, get your tacos nicks way...you won't regret it:ohlawd:

Ain't shyt wrong with Southland Mall bruh. Hayward has a very low murder rate compared to Frisco. Don't shyt be going down in Hayward like that. And ain't shyt wrong with San Leandro either. San Leandro is not more dangerous than Berkeley is. As long as you don't walk around looking like a victim and watch yourself and make sure nobody is following you you'll be good. I forgot to tell the OP that Alameda is a great place to eat and shop aswell. Not much shopping besides the shopping center by the beach but Alameda is probably the safest city in the surrounding Oakland areas.

On the occasional extra hot day in the bay, alameda beach is actually a cool look. You're not gonna jump in and be washed in beauty like its Miami, but I've had some fun impromptu days there.

OP, if your into nature, take trips to Santa Cruz, Monterrey, Stinson beach, the Muir wood, and Half moon bay. Also, don't sleep on temescal and Tilden for close hiking, picnics

Ideas for different date spots : CHabot space and science center, Berkeley rose garden, hit up the marina in emeryville

it isnt, im just pointing out how crazy it is for dudes to be recommending these trashy malls to an out of towner.. there are plenty of clean/safe/classy malls n shopping centers here and ive posted them. its like recommending someone who aint from ny to go into harlem to go shopping instead of just stickin with the 'safer' parts of manhattan

Southland has every kind of store the average guy could ask for. You complaining about their Macy's is a store problem, every big mall in the country has a Macy's so your point is senseless. It's not 1 empty store in Southland. Bayfair is what you're describing Southland as, Southland ain't. There are no empty stores that went out of business in Southland. The mall ain't dirty and unkept. It's plenty of shoe and sports stores for men. It's plenty of women stores for the ladies. a mall that has a Sears,Ross,Macy's,JC Penny,Kohls can't be that bad because all of those company's wouldn't be able to stay in business in a ghetto mall without being robbed till they went outta business. I remember the days of Eastmont and if you think Southland is ghetto then hop in my time machine and let me show you the real ghetto mall.

You really just rambled off sears, jcpenney, Ross, and kohls as shopping destinations? Those stores are garbage as are most Macy's, the quality of a Macy's truly depends on the income bracket of the mall it's in. Southland is for shoes, teens, hoodrats, and working class families (nothing wrong with that). But high end and/or quality and/or destination shopping it is not, especially if you're catching Bart and going out your way to shop, that's not the mall I'd send people to

My last post will be food spots:
- burgers: Barney's, nations, oscars (in north Berkeley). Chain - in n out
- pizza: Zachary's, also try blondies/fat slice at least once, cheeseboard. Chain - round table
- random: Betty's bake shop chicken sandwich, Genova's deli for premium sammiches :lawd: both on telegraph in the "temescal"
-too many Mexican spots to name, but gordo's and cactus tacquria (stuffed tacos)
- Brenda's French soul food and farmer browns in SF are smaller joints that are worth the trip

Stonridge= Grey hoez wit bread
Sun Valley=^^^^minus the bread
Valley Fair=8th street latinas
Stonestown=Right next to SF State, bad filipinas be up in that bish
Westfield=Dtwn SF, Tourist hoez gettin they shop on

:salute:

You sound like a seasoned bay vet!

Hilltop used to be even worse back in the day. I was a lil nygga with my auntie back in the 90s and funk popped off in the mall.

You guys make the bay sound like a war zone is it really that serious or just on par with other cities...

Na its not a war zone, there are just certain parts of cities you should stay away from

There are plenty of really nice areas in the bay area, the South Bay/Peninsula is overall pretty wealthy area.. This is the Silicon Valley where all the tech companies are located

Google, Yahoo, Ebay, Intel, IBM, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter Etc...

Stanford is also in the South Bay

San Francisco overall is a pretty safe city, just certain areas you should stay away from..
