follow me, and while you thinkin you were first
lets travel at magnificent speeds around the universe
what could you say as the earth gets further and further away
planets as small as balls of clay
astray into the milky way, worlds out of sight
far as the eye can see not even a satellite
now stop and turn around and look...
as you stare in the darkness, your knowledge is took!
so keep starin, soon you suddenly see a star
you better follow it, cause it's the R

come on son. Nas my man and 50 grand, favorite mc ever, but Nas should not be destroy Ra in this poll like that, back in late 80's/early 90's Rakim was close to/on par with Nas now, lol, son is an alien

This site is obviously full of younger crowd who probably weren't alive when Rakim was on top

He was definitely top 3 in his era
In the conversation would be KRS, LL, Kane, Cube

That being said the Nas is probably top 3 ALL-TIME
But that's today.. Who knows what rapper will come along in the next 15-20 yrs that could surpass him therefore
It doesn't make sense to make these type of comparisons

It's time that we judge this based on levels
Like who has reached the top level and who has progressed and moved the culture forward this reaching a higher level

It's easier to compare the impact of an MC in their era then to compare guys from different eras who are dealing with different challenges

Top level right now prolly has 4-5 guys in it ex:

PAC
Nas
Big
Hov
Cube

Next tier/level

Rakim
Kane
KRS
LL
Scarface

The old heads get all the respect in the world for paving the way, but you have to dock them points for longevity.

Nas / Jay / Em / Common / 90's generation proved you can make dope ass music in your 40's, and when your albums are in double digits.

80's generation gave up when they turned 30, or put out consistently bad material. (Seventh Seal suuuuucked)

Nas himself would say Rakim is better, but no, he is not.

Nas has wayyy more diversity, too.

i'd say nas at his best was better, but rakim was way more consistent over the years as far as skill set goes. if you put on records from random years of each, and take away the production side of things...you can instantly see the difference between them as far as the amount of time they kept the same kind of rhyme style.

And rakim did a very few featurings. I can't consider goat a rapper who faced a little bit the competion on wax. Only greats rapper rakim faced was nas, g rap and jay and it was pretty confidential

To me it was simple

I actually bought a Rakim album about like late 00s. 09 or sum.

And it was BAD. I've always wondered how, judging by the stuff he made that I love.

But that's it. In 2022 Nas is making stuff that people really fux wit. Rakim somehow cannot do the same in 2022.

But Rakim was essentially already done when Nas started. Nas has been relevant in every Hip Hop Era that followed hid debut and doesn't seem to be losing it yet.
