I'm speaking from the viewpoint of having seen both these dudes in their pRIME. raKim had aura, he had stage presence, he lyrics were simply magnificent. Every1 knew them. The problem with The R though is that he never kept up to date and that gentlemen is a true sign of gr8ness. U have to stay current and have people gravitating to your product. The R had a 5 year run when he hit winner after winner. I think Nas saw the dispute that Rakim had with Eric B and when Ill Will died decided to never duo up. Now look at him he surpassed The R in every which way. I don't diG the comparison. Nas has a more complex rhyme scheme and a more expansive range of topics from which to speak, but Rakim's subject matter was scientifically, mythically and mathematically on some other ish.

Question Who actually saw Ra in his prime. I did. When Nas raps abt dude having lasers in his eyes in UBR I saw it from 12 ft away. Now dude was one of the the Founding Fathers of Modern Rap but get over yourselves with this GOAT ish. Dude aint rapping for ne1 to hear now. Gr8ness should be life long. Dude should be dropping albums now if his genius is that gr8. From 86>92 dude was the $hit. Then musically he fell off the face of the earth. Deal with it. Nas with all his flaws, ambitions, contradictions, successes & relative failures is still here, still doing it and doing it with much cultural and international significance. You only had to attend his DR tour with Damian Marley to appreciate his social and musical reach. Nas has managed to survive and thrive through so many shifts and turns in the hip hop landscape and still be here with fans waiting to hear his next instalment of life and music. If ne mc is GOAT it's Nas. End of this stoopid discussion.
I'm not sure I can vote on this one. I have Nas higher in my list due to material but Rakim is like God on the mic.
