Black people...search your feelings. Do we think reparations can be effectively fought for in 2020?

Every year, millions of Americans are given tax refunds and basically treat it like the tooth fairy - having next to no idea how their rebates are calculated.

There’s no reason ADOS can’t be given reparations when farmers and multi-national corporations are subsidized for billions of dollars every year.

Democrats are unlikely to do this, as black people are already voting for them by 90%+. Their problem is black turnout, though. That said, if they can get elected while caping for illegal immigration, Muslims, and lgbt, which are all smaller voting blocks than black people, they can advocate for reparations.

I could absolutely see Republicans doing this. The extreme racists aren't likely to vote democrat, so they would be neutralized. There would be a silent understanding among Republican voters that this is a relatively low cost way to buy the black vote for the next several decades, thus insuring their policies can stay in tact. Republicans have been very worried that demographic shifts will make them irrelevant. If they can get black voters on their side, or at the least break up the black vote so it's not all Democrat, they can counter this.

Let's be reality, a Republican talking reparations would get primaried with the swiftness

Senator Elizabeth Warren backs reparations for black Americans | Reuters

“We must confront the dark history of slavery and government-sanctioned discrimination in this country that has had many consequences including undermining the ability of Black families to build wealth in America for generations,” Warren, who is white, said in a statement to Reuters.

She pointed to a bill she has introduced in Congress that would provide help to minorities in making a down payment on a home.

“Black families have had a much steeper hill to climb - and we need systemic, structural changes to address that,” she said in the statement.

I would love to have reparations as do we all but I want to see how this will be implemented. It’s easy to do that reparations talk to get black people to watch you but it is a very bold idea and I need to see how people fight for it since they can say that now for the primary to try to “outleft” Bernie and co. but when they get to the White House you won’t hear a peep about it again but if that happens black people need to make them “pay” that political price for playing with our heart strings with the finesse move. For this to even be a thing they need to be aggressive with the reparations talk like Bernie was aggressive on M4A talk in 2016.

it wont be all policy driven, but those who want more "democratic socialism" vs a moderate party that wants to promote "responsible" capitalism and social liberties vs a conservative party that continues to concentrate wealth in the hands of a few, which are mainly white people, and their disenfranchised lackeys who latch on due to race and their satisfaction that at least the white man is staying ahead

If we had a parliamentary system then I could see that happening. But if our political/electoral system stays in its current form I think groups are too afraid of being left out in the cold.

That could potentially exclude a lot of people based solely on a lack of records or are you saying utilize DNA to establish the qualification similar to the Native American tribes?

How can you be an American citizen and ADOS and not have paperwork? Believe it or not -- you can find your ancestors via the Census, death and others records --- they are available.

The first step is to know your parents and grandparents.

Imagine being black and willing to fight the uphill battle for socialized healthcare, but not black redress for years of state sanctioned violence and oppression... :scusthov:
Then imagine trying to talk other blacks out of fighting for it...:scusthov:
So Warren/Harris have your support this upcoming election right?

Policy would be easier to write if we all had 250k in a savings account. You know how much more weight our voices would have on policy? Everyone would want a slice of the pie. Our voices aren't being heard because of the wealth gap.
This doesn’t even make fukking sense:dahell:

Cash in the bank=/=wealth.

250k in the bank does not make your voice any louder.

The “wealth gap” has nothing to do with race or reparations. Remember all the wealth in America is locked up with 2% of the country. The average white family is not really better off than the average black family.

It’s America’s “squeeze the middle class” policy that is the reason for the current wealth distribution. Only way to fix the “wealth gap” is to fix the policy that created it.

Hey, it’s not my fault y’all dont understand what the fukk you are talking about.

Wealth is the measure ownership. Not money in the bank.

“The wealth gap” between average white people and the rich is just as large as the wealth gap between average black peoples and the rich.

The “racial wealth gap” is predominantly a result of the top 2% being white folks. Remove them and “wealth” and more importantly quality of life is very similar between average black and white families.

Wealth is not limited to money in the bank, but a substantial amount of money in the bank that doesn't have to be touched for day to day living definitely qualifies as wealth.

Thomas Shapiro, author of The Hidden Cost of Being African American says

"The total value of things families own minus their debts."
