I like the drumless shyt ...I make beats but I have to use drums lol. Even when I think this shyt would sound dope without drums I still have to use them lol
No doubt. Even though there are drumless beats in hip-hop history that I like a lot, I rarely hear a beat without drums that I think wouldn’t sound better with them added.

Boldy interview from Complex today about upcoming projects.

I know you're in the studio right now. What are you working on?

Boldy James: I'm finishing this new Alchemist project. I just finished, of course, The Versace Tape. I got some records in the stash that I previously worked on with Gunn, and Harry Fraud sent me a couple of tracks. I just did something with Spitta.

Listened this morning. Boldy’s improves rapping skills really carry the project. I dunno. I’m just not a big Jay Versace fan. The beats on this are cool, and it’s an easy listen because it’s short. But I’m gonna run the drum complaint into the ground. This Versace kid almost seems like a plant. I’m not sure how he’s so on right now.

Cartier
Brick Van Exel (reminds of a Knxwledge beat)
Cardinal Sin (dope chop and fire bars)
Bentayga
Roxycontin (but I wish it was all Boldy)

So far those are the ones I dig.

Edit: I’m :dead: at this being the 2nd time Boldy has called Tea in China by the name Tea Pot in China
I think so too and I'm not dissing him as a person but it's too odd of a connection. Maybe he has a relative in the industry or something because I don't get how else he can be on. He has some dope loops but not a drum? WHAT THE HELL MAN! He ain't even freak some of the loops hard by putting little stutters in it or scratches or something.

A whole project with no drums ain't it. Jay is gonna have to work on that. There's some nice loops but currently he's a niche producer who would be better served doing a track or two and not a whole project.

The loop for Versace Church Van doesn't sound bad at all to me it's just that it's more of something that should be used as an intro/interlude. They chose to rap over it :manny:
On a beat tape or just as instrumental interlude fine but someone rapping over that just sounds annoying to me.

I don't get why Mach and Fahim would choose that to rap over and then they took it down too.

Who else has rocked the sample(much better than Versace) for "Bentayga"? I want to say it was 9th but I can't place it? I can hear the song and everything, shyt is driving me crazy.

I've heard people compare Boldy to Prodigy before, and definitely you can hear it in the voice. And Alchemist says their personalities are similar too.

:wow:

:wow:

Dope so far. I came in expecting no drums and just straight loops, which is Jay's style. Boldy's rhymes continue to improve. When I go back and listen to My First Chemistry Set, while I love that album (and think it's one of Alchemist's best, beat wise) you can hear him running into walls with his bars. Punchlines not hitting, not actually rhyming, etc. But he's got a flow and rhyme pattern down now and it just...works with that voice.

Brick Van Exel :wow:
