I rarely engage in these diaspora wars, cuz they’re so stupid. People really got Twitter trolls and responses to the furor created by Twitter trolls making them think African Americans are anti Africa
One dummy really tried to lump us in with Dominicans?
African Americans absolutely have a reverence for Africa. It’s been that way my whole life; and I know it’s at least been that way since the 60s when we went hard for that shyt. But Africa isn’t our home. We’re foreigners when we visit. It’s fine, I get love in every African nation I’ve been in, but I am a foreigner; there’s no confusion about that. It’s no different than an Argentine visiting Spain (or Germany

).
The problem with these diaspora wars is that they’re just full of ignorant statements; blatantly false statements. And once the war is started it’s just counter blows from there, so people are just talking past each other. At some point y’all gotta take a step back and see that our gripes are legitimate instead of just trying to dismiss them. Our main problem is just with foreigners who come here and shyt on African Americans. And I’m not talking about innocuous shyt like how we dress or how we talk or whatever. I’m talking about calling us lazy and parroting other white suprematist talking points (violent, irresponsible etc). I know numerous 1st gen folks who have told me their parents and elders do that. Of course we don’t like that shyt. And it’s extremely insulting to parrot that shyt whilst enjoying the liberties we fought and died to get. And y’all know this ain’t some anecdotal shyt that doesn’t apply broadly. Even with all that, African Americans still don’t have beef with Africans or others in the diaspora. Some may participate in the online wars, but in the real world, we don’t talk down on none of y’all at our kitchen tables. It’s not ingrained into our conversations or teachings to our young. Just don’t try to call us crazy for pointing out the bullshyt and act like it’s something we shouldn’t be offended by.
Even in this very thread there are really people trying to gaslight us by saying Burna Boy
just said we should get a stronger connection to Africa. No he said
THAT was the reason for us having a different experience that descendants of China in America. That’s patently false. I ain’t even mad at him cuz he was asked to explain why descendants of Africa around the globe should have a connection to Africa. He just used America as an example. If he had chosen Europe, he would have realized his whole point was stupid given how African immigrants are treated there even with their strong connection to the Motherland. Ultimately, I just chalk it up a popular artist being asked a question that was above his weight.
